[06:32:22] <micges_work> hello
[07:06:08] <alex_joni> hi
[07:14:23] <micges_work> alex_joni: what's up?
[07:39:55] <alex_joni> work :)
[08:54:53] <alex_joni> micges_work: you?
[09:11:41] <micges_work> alex_joni: not much... next 2D laser, fast 3D rod welder, gantry 3D table mill, testing velocity mode joints in EMC2, brand new industrial GUI, vec2ngc improvement, rtethernet... ;)
[09:12:11] <micges_work> all with EMC2 ;)
[09:36:18] <alex_joni> cool
[18:28:18] <CIA-7> EMC: 03mshaver 07master * rb99670b64c2f 10/configs/smithy/ (1240_4axis.hal 1240_4axis.ini): Add support for 4th axis on a 1240 mill, and correct a typo in 622_4axis.ini.

[20:07:02] <micges> hi seb
[20:09:29] <seb_kuzminsky> hey there
[20:14:15] <mozmck_work> micges: you mentioned earlier you're working on a new gui?
[20:14:43] <micges> yep
[20:15:14] <mozmck_work> what will be different with it? what language is it in?
[20:15:54] <mozmck_work> I've got wild ideas about making a gui framework that would make it easy to build any kind of gui...
[20:17:37] <micges> python + gtk (like jepler's gremlin), can work without keyb (for touchscreens), make all functionality of emc avaiable (unhoming and such)
[20:18:43] <micges> mozmck_work: I was thinking about this too, using widgets and building like pyvcp panels
[20:18:51] <mozmck_work> I see. I'm still not used to python well enough. Much more comfortable with c and c++.
[20:19:45] <mozmck_work> yeah, that was my thought, and I can do it if I can get a little time. I would use c++ probably, but not qt.
[20:21:57] <micges> mozmck_work: I would write it but my machines are mostly prototypes and wicked configs so I'd rather wrtite GUI from scratch
[20:23:31] <mozmck_work> yeah, it would take a bit of work, and I would have to do some work to tie in configs, but I have a pretty good idea how to do it - I think!
[20:23:34] <micges> jepler's last work with Axis allow to make preview widget easly attachable to pyvcp panel
[20:23:56] <mozmck_work> yes, that will be handy I believe.
[20:25:22] <micges> what are you do in day job? building machines?
[20:30:14] <micges> mozmck_work: I'll happly test your framework
[20:42:47] <mozmck_work> no, we build electronics to interface with machines, mostly smaller stuff. candcnc.com
[20:57:25] <micges> I see
[20:59:48] <Bridgeport_II> Hi moz, seb, and all. This is Kim. I'm up at John's helping with his Bridgeport II (BP2).
[21:00:24] <mozmck_work> hi Bridgeport_II: how's it going?
[21:00:54] <seb_kuzminsky> hi kim :-)
[21:02:14] <Bridgeport_II> everything looking good, doing final adjustments and tuning. This is the first time I have tried to tune steppers so it seems strange to me. (Tune steppers? I thought you just hooked them up!)
[21:04:24] <mozmck_work> what kind of drives are you using? on the geckos we adjust the trim pot for low speed resonance damping.
[21:12:45] <Bridgeport_II> John is using Keiling microstepping drives (model 8078 (KL-8078?), 80VDC, 8A). Also sold by other vendors, Micromotion, etc. (All from China.) We are 10-microstepping until shown otherwise.
[21:19:15] <Bridgeport_II> Has anyone else observed strange behavior from gedit during copy and paste with the mouse? I've found lately I have to jiggle the cursor left and right with the arrow keys after mousing it to the paste location, otherwise it tries to paste where the cursor used to be (or something?)
[21:19:50] <Bridgeport_II> Google did not show much on this, at least for me.
[21:32:42] <mozmck_work> I've never seen that. As long as I click where I want it it pastes there.
[21:34:26] <Bridgeport_II> OK, thanks, maybe we'll try removing and replacing?
[21:34:27] <cradek> Bridgeport_II: sounds fun. glad you guys are finally near finishing it. seems like it has been a long project!
[21:38:45] <mozmck_work> Bridgeport_II: I don't know. I would think it's more of an X problem, but not sure...
[21:40:34] <cradek> I have not noticed that particular problem with gedit but I avoid it whenever possible
[21:40:45] <seb_kuzminsky> "gedit? is that like gvim?"
[21:40:49] <CIA-7> EMC: 03mshaver 07master * raa090579cc76 10/configs/smithy/ (1240.ini 1240_4axis.ini 622_4axis.ini README): Adjust new rotary axis parameters for 1240 mill.
[21:43:14] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: no, it's that editor that comes up right before you stop what you're doing and configure something to give you a different editor - I bet you've seen it
[21:43:37] <seb_kuzminsky> oh, you mean like nano?
[21:43:50] <cradek> yep, it's easy to confuse them
[21:43:53] <seb_kuzminsky> i hate that thing
[21:44:34] <cradek> hey, a clone rewrite of the "best" part of pine has to be good
[21:44:34] <Bridgeport_II> Hi Chris. John says hi to you and everyone too. Finishing working on it (the EMC2 part) but lots more to do yet on the machine, John wants to move it soon, without hiring a rigger or using a forklift. It is about 9 feet tall at the spindle motor and weighs around 7000 lbs. it will only be 8.5 ft tall when John is done because he's taking out one of two riser blocks.
[21:45:16] <Bridgeport_II> * Bridgeport_II suddenly remembers he's in the "devel" channel where everyone uses vi, emacs, etc.
[21:45:17] <cradek> Bridgeport_II: sounds fun. I moved my series 1 out of the shop last weekend - plenty of work for me, probably only half the weight
[21:45:58] <cradek> I'll probably try to move the mori next weekend - also 7000-8000 lb - let me know your secrets :-)
[21:46:24] <Bridgeport_II> I'll see if i can get John to come over here and chat
[21:46:30] <cradek> the series 1 is easy to lift with a 5' prybar, so it's easy to get rollers under it
[21:46:41] <cradek> the mori will not lift with that bar, so it'll be more tedious
[21:46:55] <seb_kuzminsky> cradek is going to need a longer lever
[21:47:04] <cradek> I was just heading home - I'll talk to you guys soon
[21:47:18] <seb_kuzminsky> seeya :-)
[21:47:46] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: I hope to use the bottle jack I bought for the bus. as a last resort, I can use its leveling feet, but it would be very tedious work
[21:47:54] <cradek> very very
[21:48:13] <cradek> can only get to them with a wrench, can only turn 1/6th a turn per "wrenching", very fine thread
[21:49:32] <cradek> bbl
[21:49:34] <Bridgeport_II> OK, John's in the middle of something and you've got to go so I'll be here and see you later
[21:58:38] <micges> hmm.. task's motion.spindle.speed isn't updated on spindle_override change.. I think it's a bug
[22:00:31] <micges> becouse in hal spindle speed changes with feed_override
[22:02:45] <Bridgeport_II> Spindle speed changes with feed_override?
[22:03:29] <micges> err spindle_override of course ;)
[22:03:48] <Bridgeport_II> Oh, OK
[22:03:48] <micges> It's late here :)
[22:04:48] <Bridgeport_II> sure, no problem. I thought you might be describing an unwanted interaction or something else I didn't understand
[23:17:08] <micges> good night
[23:31:47] <cradek> back
