[00:20:38] <mozmck> cradek: I've used a couple of different kinds of jacks (bottle, or floor jacks) to lift a heavy machine, and get it on pipes. I used a come-along (hand crank winch) attached to a wall beam to pull the machine.
[00:23:40] <mozmck> saw some homemade machine dollies the other day made with a piece of angle iron with two shafts welded underneath protruding from each side. there were ball bearings for wheels on each shaft with a cotter pin to keep them on. Looked like they were moving 20,000 lb machines with them...
[01:21:03] <Dave911> Hillman rollers are the hot ticket for moving heavy machines. My 20,000 lb lathe is taking a 50 foot trip across the shop tomorrow on a set. Much better than using pipes as they roll over uneven flooring fairly well also.
[01:21:05] <Dave911> I bought both of the sets I have off Ebay. A light set (rated about 8 tons) is less than $200 typically. A lot of the big rental shops rent toe jacks and Hillman rollers. Toe Jacks are great for lifting machines onto a set of Hillman rollers.
[01:22:38] <Dave911> Whoops I miss spelled their name...

[01:24:15] <skunkworks_> dad has a set of those.. have not had a chance to use them yet.
[01:25:41] <skunkworks_> well - I think they are a knock off..
[01:37:06] <mozmck> The rollers I saw probably didn't cost anything to make and not much time. I have enough scrap metal and bearings laying around to make some - which I'll probably do before I have to move a machine again!
[01:43:02] <mozmck> that chain roller looks like a good idea though - looks like it would go right over small stuff.
[02:18:36] <cradek> thanks for your advice, guys
[02:18:57] <cradek> mozmck: I have a big tree in the right place - straight outside the back door of the shop
[02:19:21] <cradek> I have to get it turned before that pull though
[02:20:01] <cradek> I have only about an inch of height to spare so I might not be able to use machine skates/rollers
[04:17:50] <Dave911> And inch of height to spare .... wow that is close! Grease on a steel plate ?? Good Luck
