[01:41:34] <PCW_> mighty quiet here...
[02:07:56] <jepler> pcw: we're all in chris's shop working hard
[02:12:35] <LawrenceG> what are you guys building on a Friday night? ... hangover?
[02:17:09] <skunkworks> a machine conversion hangover!
[02:17:44] <LawrenceG> nothing like a little black grease under the fingernails
[02:26:34] <jepler> seb is looking at cradek's old bridgeport with an eye to conversion, and stuart and I are just taking up space
[02:27:16] <LawrenceG> cool.... wish I was closer
[02:28:07] <jepler> yeah, these guys are all within a day's drive of us
[02:29:46] <LawrenceG> I wonder if a bridgeport could be packed in a container.... moving those across country is not too expensive
[02:35:25] <jepler> I think so. shipping containers seem to be 7'+ inside and with a moderate amount of disassembly the machine will fit through shop doors and garage doors upright
[03:07:31] <steves_logging> steves_logging is now known as steve_stallings
[07:25:29] <christel> [Global Notice] Good morning all! As you are aware we're about to start the migration over to ircd-seven shortly, I am about to take a snapshot of the services database and copy across topics and channelmodes (bans, invexes etc). This means that any changes you make to channel modes or services after this point (on hyperion) will be lost. We'll be a bit noisy as the migration goes on and will global to keep you updated. Thanks for your patien
[07:57:01] <christel> [Server Notice] Hi, for users on calvino we would encourage you to make sure that your client is set to reconnect to main rotation (chat.freenode.net) as this server will not be immediately available after migration. Thank you!
[08:00:53] <christel> [Global Notice] Hi all, services and channel states have now been migrated over to the new production network. We're migrating utility bots/pseudoservers as we speak and we're nearly ready for users. Users connected to calvino, crichton, kubrick, leguin and verne may wish to make sure they are re-connecting to chat.freenode.net as these servers will not be immediately linked on newnet as they are pending upgrades first. Thank you!
[08:29:48] <christel> [Global Notice] Hi all, The migration is complete! newnet is up and running and you may now manually connect to irc.freenode.net, ports stay the same, however SSL listens on ports 7000 and 7070 if you wish to connect via SSL. We'll be taking down hyperion servers momentarily and we shall see you on the other side! Thank you!
[08:48:03] <christel> [Global Notice] The migration is complete and went smoothly, thank you for your patience while we transferred state from hyperion to seven, thank you to seven and charybdis developers for making ircd-seven happen and than you to freenodes infrastructure team for all getting dug in! Website FAQ is updated, as is our blog. You may wish to familiarise yourself with changes. Thanks!
[16:13:19] <christel> [Global Notice] We'll be restarting services quickly in a moment to make ChanServ leave your channels now that the usercount is up and channels are once again populated by 'real users'. Apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience throughout the migration!
[17:42:32] <pcw_home> 1 2 3 is this thing on?
[17:55:04] <LawrenceG> hi Peter
[18:06:05] <pcw_home> hi Lawrence
[18:08:28] <LawrenceG> how did you get started in writing code for fpgas? I am thinking of a few ham radio applicators that might fit on a mesa card
[18:08:44] <LawrenceG> applications
[18:09:32] <micges> hi pcw_home
[18:09:57] <LawrenceG> I am thinking of a daughter card that has some rf speed a/d chips
[18:11:28] <pcw_home> Long story, I'm more of a hardware guy that got dragged into the FPGA stuff by necessity
[18:11:30] <pcw_home> (hi micges)
[18:12:29] <pcw_home> For high speed you need to consider cable termination
[18:14:37] <LawrenceG> yes... the mesa card (5i20) is one of the few fast ways to get data in and out of a pc these days.... I hate USB... the standard has been around forever and there are still piles of broken hardware and drivers on the market
[18:15:38] <LawrenceG> USB was very much an example of design by committee ...
[18:16:15] <pcw_home> On our stuff we usually parallel terminate FPGA outputs at the daughter card
[18:16:16] <pcw_home> and series terminate daughtercard outputs
[18:16:18] <pcw_home> This works with all FPGAs. Spartan3 and above have built in termination
[18:16:19] <pcw_home> but we need the daughter cards to be SP2 compatible
[18:16:21] <pcw_home> ( USB is so complicated its not surprising its still so buggy)
[18:17:53] <pcw_home> For high speed data acquisition I would recommend the 5I23 or 5I22 as they support DMA
[18:18:13] <LawrenceG> yea... I played with a pic trying to make a usb midi interface work.... the results were not promising
[18:19:15] <LawrenceG> that could be useful
[18:26:44] <pcw_home> Also we expect to have to low cost PCIE cards out later this year
[18:38:15] <LawrenceG> excellent
[19:14:26] <pcw_home> bbl
[19:21:13] <jepler> hoooray, all the cards seb brought work with the firmwares I built
[19:21:22] <jepler> now just fiddling with the packaging process a bit..
[19:22:38] <pcw_home> jepler: I added the index(and probe) on the stepgen feature
[19:24:35] <jepler> pcw_home: cool. that makes it "stepgen v3" I suppose?
[19:25:07] <pcw_home> Yes V3
[19:25:56] <pcw_home> Changes wont affect existing driver
[19:26:17] <jepler> I think the hal driver will reject an unknown stepgen version, though
[19:27:58] <pcw_home> Its bigger enough that you dont want it to be the default so its only there if you have Stepgen index pins
[19:28:42] <jepler> also we could bump the accepted version to 3 even if the v3 features aren't supported yet (a one-line change)
[19:30:37] <pcw_home> Maybe I need a major/minor version scheme, minor add features or bugfix but does not require driver changes
[19:31:48] <jepler> are there bits spare, or are you faced with dividing the 8 (?) bits of version into major/minor?
[19:32:11] <pcw_home> Just 8 bits...
[19:33:22] <pcw_home> Of course major could be a new module tag...
[19:35:46] <pcw_home> The 8 bit version numbers are per module versions, there isn't a global firmware version
[19:38:12] <jepler> the idrom version could be thought of as a global version
[19:39:43] <jepler> bbl
[19:40:42] <pcw_home> bye
[20:51:34] <kloeri> [Global Notice] Hi all. As part of the migration to ircd-seven channel mode +R was replaced by channel mode +q $~a. Channel operators can use /mode ##channel -q $~a to let unidentified people talk again. Feel free to jump into #freenode if you should have any questions about this. Thank you for using freenode.
[22:55:08] <christel> [Global Notice] Hi all, Some of you (irssi users in particular) have had some problems regarding our SSL certificate. There's some instructions/information over at http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml Thanks to Bazerka and tomaw for investigating the issue and figuring it out!
[23:34:59] <Martinp23> Hi folks! A few moments ago that we suffered a rather large split. This was because a minor core code update to fix default channel mode settings did not go smoothly on a subset of servers, causing them to restart. We've made procedure changes so as not to let it happen again and we deeply apologise and thank you for using freenode! If you have any problems, as ever, #freenode is open to help.
