[18:51:58] <KimK> OK, thanks.
[18:52:18] <cradek> that's my special way of saying I don't know from memory
[18:53:05] <KimK> No problem, I was just trying to have someone use the command line for faster results. But I can have them use Synaptic, it'll be fine.
[18:54:47] <cradek> % dpkg -s truetype-tracer
[18:54:52] <cradek> Version: 4.0-1
[18:55:39] <KimK> Oh, excellent, I've never done that one. I did make several guesses though, -?, -v, -h, --help, --version, no success.
[19:00:22] <KimK> I have another problem if you have a minute. I thought there was a way to setup/allow "instant home" for use with witness lines and wheels. But it seems not, so for simulation and development purposes (bench setup, Mesa cards, no servos) I may have to change over from "true" ini file to a "sim" ini file. Am I missing anything? Any other suggestions?
[19:01:24] <cradek> http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config/ini_homing.html
[19:01:26] <skunkworks> emc can be setup to home where ever you are at
[19:01:37] <cradek> sounds like you want "Homing Type" = None from the table
[19:02:05] <KimK> I tried that, but I didn't get the "homed" targets.
[19:02:07] <cradek> (yuck, the image is missing)
[19:02:14] <cradek> psha: ^ ?
[19:02:59] <cradek> KimK: did you get an error?
[19:04:34] <KimK> Once I had it set up "correctly"(?) so that it didn't try to move the non-existent servos, it didn't fault. But I never got the targets. Hmmm, I never tried to execute a program either. (It must have been too late, I wasn't thinking clearly, lol)
[19:05:11] <cradek> try again - it does work - you must have had something not quite right.
[19:05:37] <KimK> Yes, I'll go retry it now, back in a bit...
[19:05:48] <KimK> Should I get the targets?

[19:29:41] <KimK> I would say it's not working. If I push "home all" it doesn't do anything observable, and later says "Can't run a program if not homed". If I push machine/home/X, it tries to move and faults out. I posted just the [AXIS 0] section at
http://pastebin.com/BBMbbWR3 Shall I post more? Or try anything else?
[19:30:40] <cradek> if you want to use home all, you need a home sequence. setting them all to zero is fine, since the order isn't important.
[19:31:21] <KimK> Oh, OK, but not -1. I'll try that. BRB again...
[19:31:33] <cradek> "If HOME_SEQUENCE is -1 or not specified then this joint will not be homed by the HOME ALL sequence."
[19:31:34] <PCW> Is there any (more than idle) interest in jerk limited profiles for EMC? Not sure if Yi-Shin Li's stuff is usable or not
[19:31:39] <cradek> I guess it is allowed, but it disables home all

i_tarzan has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
[19:47:05] <KimK> cradek, skunkworks: OK, I got it to work, thanks for your help. I had to set the HOME_OFFSET to zero, which I guess I can understand, since there's no home switch to offset against. But I also had to set HOME to zero, which seems an arbitrary restriction. Why can't the witness lines define any value/location?

[19:51:22] <KimK> Or, if it would be more consistent with the usual auto-homing method, I guess the HOME_OFFSET value could be involved in the witness line homing as well. I'll have to think about that one for awhile.
