[12:35:28] <jepler> cradek: the porting from python 2.6 to 2.7 is likely to be minor
[12:35:41] <jepler> they tend to be pretty conservative about incompatible changes
[12:36:02] <jepler> (except for 2.x -> 3.x, which is a leap I can't imagine any significant part of emc's python code surviving)
[12:42:21] <SWPadnos> how long do you thing it will be before 3.x is default (and 2.x becomes an extra dependency)?
[12:42:52] <SWPadnos> and then there's the question of how long before 2.x is deprecated/difficult to get :)

[13:06:54] <SWPadnos> I wonder if that means anything for 12.04
[13:07:35] <SWPadnos> I'd bet it does for 14.04 (ie, by 14.04 then, they will likely default to 3.x
[13:07:37] <SWPadnos> gah
[13:07:54] <SWPadnos> I'd bet it does for 14.04 (ie, by 14.04, they will likely default to 3.x, whereas they probably won't for 12.04)

[13:13:14] <cradek> the triangles looked right to me
[13:14:27] -!- Valen has quit [Read error: Connection timed out]
[13:14:34] <SWPadnos> yep, they look good to me too
[13:15:58] <SWPadnos> maybe he missed the idea that there are a bunch of different triangles, with 0 and two adjacent v[x] points (successive vc and vs pairs, where vs from one cycle becomes vc in the next)

[16:12:04] <jepler> I have no sense of how readily python3 is being adopted for core stuff in ubuntu. With people like Barry Warsaw saying that 3.2 is "the first Python3 to start basing production quality code on", I think that point is a few years off
[16:13:29] <jepler> and in that timeframe I think pypy (which implements the python2 language) is as interesting a path to the future as python3
[16:18:17] -!- psha [[email protected]] has joined #emc-devel
[16:18:22] <jepler> > April 12, 2010, Perl 5.12.0 was released. Notable core enhancements include new package NAME VERSION syntax, the Yada Yada operator
[16:18:32] <jepler> anyway, we should abandon all our python code and switch to the language with the "yada yada" operator
[16:19:40] <psha> heh, using yada yada it's very simple to write perl programs
[16:20:55] <psha> just write it and program is nearly done

[17:52:02] <jepler> > Pypy itself will stay written in python 2, but the interpreter might someday support python 3.

[21:47:28] <tom3p> JT-Shop, do you think the THC 'trick' could be used to keep constant pressure on a polishing head, while it follows a path?
[21:49:30] -!- mozmck [mozmck!~moses@client-173.225.233.214.dfwtx.partnershipbroadband.com] has joined #emc-devel
[21:53:11] <JT-Shop> I guess if you had the right feedback on the pressure
[21:53:24] <JT-Shop> why not just use pneumatic pressure?
[21:55:41] <archivist> pressure changes per unit area in the centre from flat to curved, is that what you want
[21:57:16] <archivist> sum in some measured torque and you may be able to fiddle that to near enough
[21:58:02] <tom3p> JT-Shop, pneumatic/hydraulic pressure would stay constant as the the path and velocity change? it seems like it would. good point
[21:58:23] <tom3p> archivist, the pressure would change becasue the area might change... noted, thx
[22:00:23] <archivist> some grinding/polishing systems have no centre contact
[22:01:08] <tom3p> i know of only 2 cnc polishing units, and know nothing of the internals
