[02:02:51] <GoSebGo> A bug in the Precise version of git is preventing the buildbot from building the master branch
[02:05:29] <cradek> a git bug??

[02:12:52] <cradek> huh
[02:13:11] <cradek> seems like at least one git dev thinks it's a weird operation
[02:13:20] <cradek> I don't have the means to form an opinion about that
[02:14:22] <seb_kuzminsky> junio, the git boss hog, said:
[02:14:26] <cradek> man the git ui is such a swirl
[02:14:32] <seb_kuzminsky> there is no reason to forbid renaming the current branch to the tip commit of itself. Will queue.
[02:14:39] <seb_kuzminsky> swirl?
[02:14:49] <cradek> swirl, like what you get upon flushing
[02:14:53] <seb_kuzminsky> heh

[02:15:13] <seb_kuzminsky> "i personally went to an all you can eat fish taco buffet...."

[02:20:30] <seb_kuzminsky> didn't it end up as a new minimized window hiding in your panel or something?
[02:21:07] <cradek> which thing is the panel?
[02:21:30] <cradek> it's not a window, it's a thing that slides up into view and then slides down out of view
[02:21:34] <cradek> ... never to be seen again
[02:22:03] <seb_kuzminsky> on my lucid gnome the panel is a gray bar at the bottom that has a button for each window (minimized or not), with the title of the window in the button
[02:22:10] <seb_kuzminsky> huh
[02:22:11] <cradek> unlike the thing in the upper right, which is another kind of notification that has similar but not the same behavior
[02:22:18] <seb_kuzminsky> what are you running, windows 98?
[02:22:36] <cradek> I'm surprised you haven't seen this
[02:23:00] <cradek> well adblock plus wants an update. I bet it was probably that.
[02:23:23] <seb_kuzminsky> sometimes i'll get a little animation like an empty window-frame minimizing itself into the panel, but it always becomes a button there that i can click to bring the new window up
[02:23:26] <cradek> I found this after looking under both "Extensions" and "Plugins" which are apparently somehow different
[02:23:34] <seb_kuzminsky> heh
[02:23:56] <cradek> haha there's also "Get Add-ons"
[02:23:59] <seb_kuzminsky> there's some kind of extension-cord joke there but i'm too tired to pull it out
[02:24:10] <seb_kuzminsky> you should get some of those
[02:24:10] <cradek> I wonder if that Adds-on "Extensions" or "Plugins"
[02:24:22] <cradek> good god
[02:24:24] <seb_kuzminsky> or yet a third different thing
[02:25:01] <cradek> I wonder if I adblock plus whether I'll get the one that now shows you ads
[02:25:07] <seb_kuzminsky> on a different topic, i think we should give jthornton a raise, he's kicking ass on the docs
[02:25:32] <cradek> yes let's double his pay right away
[02:25:38] <seb_kuzminsky> done

[04:11:00] <seb_kuzminsky> jthornton asked a while back if there was a way to test local changes on the buildbot, and i answered him that he could push a branch to the linuxcnc.org repo and the buildbot would build it
[04:11:21] <seb_kuzminsky> so i just actually tried that the other day, with the precise-2.4 branch i'm working on, and ... it broke
[04:11:55] <seb_kuzminsky> because of a shortcoming in the get-version-from-git script, it used to not understand any branches other than 2.4, 2.5, and master, and give bogus results for other branches
[04:12:00] <seb_kuzminsky> i think i just fixed it
[04:12:10] <seb_kuzminsky> it's the first commit in the new precise-2.4 branch i just force-updated
[04:12:12] <seb_kuzminsky> we'll see
[04:12:28] <cradek> but creating branches that persist forever is an extremely poor way to do a test compile
[04:13:14] <seb_kuzminsky> agreed, the developer (me in this case) should remove them once they're merged
[04:13:22] <seb_kuzminsky> with "git push origin :precise-2.4"
[04:13:29] <seb_kuzminsky> pushing the "empty branch" to that name removes it
[04:13:32] <cradek> arg why am I still up?
[04:13:37] <cradek> oh, I had no idea
[04:14:10] <seb_kuzminsky> it's kind of nice to test-build on all our platforms, including building docs and debs, before merging into our 'real' branches
[04:14:32] <cradek> yeah, that actually sounds pretty neat
[04:15:01] <cradek> goodnight

[13:49:22] <mhaberler> anybody can explain me the rational why a pocket # in the tooltable is dropped on read when it's not a RANDOM_TOOLCHANGER=1 type setup? I cant see any good reason why that kind of information is dropped when it would be really useful for a rack tc for example
[13:50:09] -!-
jthornton [
[email protected]] has joined #emc-devel
[14:01:38] <skunkworks> because in a rack tool changer - the tool always goes back into the same slot it came out of.
[14:01:55] <skunkworks> (that is what I think anyway)
[14:04:03] <mhaberler> I'm not convinced by this explanation - the loss of pocket information means with a rack TC that the pocket position is equal to the tool number, which is silly
[14:07:04] <mhaberler> for instance the italian fellow over at #emc this morning has a rack tc and tools which conceptually have more than one tool in one pocket (different offsets, diameter) - so these tools have different numbers, but identical pocket numbers - no way to map that kind of setup for the simple reason that user information present in the tt is dropped
[14:08:40] <mhaberler> I'll fix all this nonsense eventually but it would be nice to have an intermediate fix for this

[21:58:46] <mhaberler> alex_joni: I would think the 15min limit on session timeout in the forum is odd - is there any precise reason why one can not stay logged in?
[21:59:30] <mhaberler> basically between an issue coming up, formulating an answer, you're kicked -???
[22:01:48] <cradek> 15 minutes isn't long enough for the booze to kick in enough to make it possible to answer a question on the forum.

[22:48:32] <GoSebGo> cradek: because i keep pushing them over and over (sorry)
[22:49:59] <GoSebGo> I've got a branch i'm working on, and i keep rebasing it to keep it clean for jepler later
[22:51:40] <GoSebGo> I think it's ready now: 2.4 builds on precise with very minor changes
[22:52:30] <GoSebGo> Most of the commits i keep pushing are buildsystem fixes to support non-standard branches on the buildbot
[22:52:53] <GoSebGo> Ie, branches other than 2.4, 2.5, and master
[22:53:24] <GoSebGo> That actually works now
