[00:37:52] <robin_z> meep?
[00:38:02] <cradek> hello
[00:38:39] <robin_z> so ... did I miss much?
[00:38:50] <cradek> much what?
[00:38:58] <robin_z> stuff
[00:39:07] <cradek> guess not
[00:39:26] <robin_z> im still thinking about what to control my sheet feeder with
[00:39:38] <robin_z> commercail PLC or ??
[01:06:15] <bill20r3> * bill20r3 got his drivers
[01:18:15] <jepler> bill2or3: which drivers did you buy?
[01:21:39] <bill20r3> some used Centent 142's off ebay
[01:22:00] <bill20r3> http://www.centent.com/cn0142.htm
[01:37:34] <cradek> hello
[01:38:26] <jmkasunich> hi
[01:40:09] <skunkworks> logger_aj: bookmark
[01:40:09] <skunkworks> See
http://solaris.cs.utt.ro/irc/irc.freenode.net:6667/emc/2006-02-17#T01-40-09
[01:41:02] <jmkasunich> hi skunkworks
[01:41:28] <jmkasunich> just got online, I'm gonna try to investigate your problem with hal version mismatches
[01:41:53] <cradek> hi skunkworks
[01:41:59] <cradek> glad to hear you got it working on another machine
[01:42:28] <skunkworks> yes - it was painless
[01:42:50] <skunkworks> I think it is still running if you want to get into it
[01:42:59] <skunkworks> (it is at my work)
[01:43:52] <jmkasunich> it works on another machine?
[01:44:02] <cradek> it works on *every other* machine
[01:44:13] <jmkasunich> well, so much for duplicating it here
[01:44:27] <cradek> he's using my binary packages, so everything is identical but the hardware
[01:44:39] <skunkworks> I also have it installed on on a 700mhz that worked
[01:45:08] <skunkworks> The one that broke is still installed and running
[01:47:09] <skunkworks> I thought that you guys wanted to look it over and see if it is and odd hardware issue or something else
[01:48:18] <jmkasunich> its gonna be really tough to get anywhere if I can't replicate it
[01:49:11] <cradek> jmkasunich: skunkworks says you have ssh access to his broken machine
[01:49:45] <jmkasunich> I do?
[01:50:05] <skunkworks> cradek - what is an easy way to edit the emc2 ini files on ubuntu? I found them but they must not have rights to edit.
[01:50:14] <skunkworks> yes - we can try
[01:50:24] <cradek> skunkworks: the files in /etc/emc2/sample-configs are just that - samples
[01:50:40] <cradek> to make a custom configuration, you need to copy a sample to your home directory and edit it there.
[01:50:41] <jmkasunich> considering I've never used ssh outside my own house, I'll need help, but I'm willing to try
[01:50:58] <cradek> after you do that, the config picker will find your new configurations when you start emc2.
[01:51:25] <cradek> skunkworks: I didn't have your login/password - it was alex, can you send it to me in a private message?
[01:51:36] <skunkworks> sure
[01:51:43] <cradek> well not yours - whatever account you set up for us to use
[01:51:44] <skunkworks> do you have the ip?
[01:51:47] <cradek> no
[01:51:53] <jmkasunich> should we take this to emc-devel?
[01:51:58] <cradek> yes
[01:54:25] <skunkworks> cradek - can you privat message me?
[01:55:03] <cradek> I did
[01:55:06] <cradek> don't you see it?
[01:55:13] <cradek> ok got it
[01:56:46] <cradek> there is now a TTT (true type tracer) debian package in the ubuntu repository
[01:57:28] <cradek> crap, there's already an app with that name
[02:02:57] <jepler> cradek: oops
[02:03:07] <jepler> perhaps you can come up with another "t"? "the true type tracer"?
[02:03:16] <jepler> no hits for apt-cache search tttt.
[02:04:14] <cradek> I'm going to call it truetype-tracer
[02:04:30] <cradek> pretty descriptive, isn't it
[02:05:22] <jepler> it needs a themeable gui
[02:05:31] <cradek> hahaha
[02:06:08] <jepler> it would be 'qttttt' for qt themeable true-type tracer
[02:06:29] <jepler> or maybe you want a nice simple tcl front-end, ttttttk
[02:06:34] <jepler> don't ask me to explain all the 't's
[02:06:35] <cradek> there is now a truetype-tracer debian package in the ubuntu repository
[02:06:51] <jmkasunich> and what is a true-type-tracer?
[02:06:59] <jepler> jmkasunich: truetype to g-code converter
[02:07:21] <jmkasunich> ah
[02:08:27] <cradek> fwiw, also does truetype-to-dxf
[02:24:21] <LawrenceG> Hi Chris
[02:24:36] <cradek> hi
[02:24:52] <LawrenceG> is your ttt package changed from your web site?
[02:25:11] <cradek> yes, much, it has the changes you kindly sent me
[02:25:18] <cradek> I haven't updated the web site yet, but will
[02:25:25] <LawrenceG> great... I'll give it a try
[02:25:43] <skunkworks> cradek - where are the ini files that the pick program uses located then?
[02:26:16] <cradek> ~/emc2/configs then /usr/local/etc/emc2/configs then /etc/emc2/sample-configs
[02:26:23] <cradek> in that order
[02:26:41] <cradek> so the easiest will be to copy one to emc2/configs/ in your home directory
[02:27:22] <skunkworks> ok
[02:27:38] <skunkworks> I will play with that tomorrow
[02:27:42] <skunkworks> thanks
[02:27:47] <cradek> welcome
[02:28:37] <skunkworks> I did the axis sim and it came right up. jogged around a bit and that was it.
[02:29:15] <cradek> nice
[02:29:22] <LawrenceG> cradek: cool.... took 1 sec to download deb for ttt
[02:29:44] <cradek> yeah, it is NOT big
[02:30:12] <cradek> oops I need to update README to reflect the new name
[02:31:26] <LawrenceG> seems to be running just fine here....
[02:31:35] <cradek> great
[12:45:12] <alex_joni> http://www.youtube.com/w/Multi-Touch%20Interaction%20Research?v=xvyjdWEHJJk&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Foctopusdropkick%2Enet%2F%3Fp%3D1106
[13:01:31] <skunkworks> cradek: - are you awake?
[13:02:41] <alex_joni> hi sam
[13:02:43] <skunkworks> logger_aj: bookmark
[13:02:43] <skunkworks> See
http://solaris.cs.utt.ro/irc/irc.freenode.net:6667/emc/2006-02-17#T13-02-43
[13:02:53] <skunkworks> Hi alex - how was the plane ride?
[13:02:59] <alex_joni> pretty good
[13:04:52] <alex_joni> skunkworks: hopefully this weekend me & jmk will look over that problem of yours
[13:04:58] <alex_joni> I presume it's still there ;)
[13:05:36] <skunkworks> go look at the history from the emc-devel - cadek and jmk spent a bunch of time on it last night
[13:06:35] <skunkworks> I went to bed but came in this morning and the machine was running memtest86 ;)
[13:06:43] <alex_joni> oh, they did?
[13:07:09] <skunkworks> they think it is a memory error but it looks like it has been running for 8 hours with no errors :(
[13:11:53] <skunkworks> unless I am reading it wrong
[13:15:40] <skunkworks> wow that was intense
[13:15:55] <skunkworks> Cradeks reboot worked - impressive
[13:16:46] <skunkworks> the mem test is still running - any one know how many steps it takes? it is on #8
[13:17:45] <cradek> is it on test 8 or pass 8 (through all the tests?)
[13:18:01] <skunkworks> it is running test 8 I think - morning
[13:18:05] <cradek> hi
[13:18:18] <cradek> it would be nice if it would get through all the tests at least once before you stop
[13:18:26] <skunkworks> no problem
[13:18:35] <cradek> but even if it doesn't find anything, we'd like you to try different ram
[13:18:48] <cradek> we're 100% sure there is something wrong with the hardware
[13:18:54] <cradek> but that doesn't necessarily mean ram
[13:19:03] <skunkworks> riiiiight - always blame the hardware or the user ;)
[13:19:28] <cradek> actually we never do that without good reason, we spent a lot of time looking for the software bug!
[13:19:49] <skunkworks> I saw that - read the history. pretty intense
[13:20:02] <cradek> the gcc crashes and kernel oopses mak me really sure it's hardware.
[13:20:19] <cradek> I have to go - I'll be back in an hour or so
[13:20:31] <skunkworks> pass 90% test 52%
[13:20:43] <skunkworks> it will end?
[13:20:44] <cradek> ah, so it's almost done with a pass, good
[13:20:54] <cradek> no it will go forever
[13:21:00] <skunkworks> ok
[13:21:10] <cradek> there are many tests, you want to hit all of them if possible before you stop
[13:21:25] <cradek> (it takes a long time with so much ram)
[13:21:26] <skunkworks> I can let it run - no problem
[13:21:41] <skunkworks> let me know when you want it to stop
[13:22:06] <cradek> after a pass or two, there's not much point in letting it run longer
[13:22:42] <cradek> we'd like to have memtest results as confirmation that there's a problem with the system, but even if it doesn't agree, we still think so!
[13:23:29] <skunkworks> it must have a 1gb chip and a 512mb chip
[13:23:43] <cradek> you could also try taking out one at a time
[13:23:45] <cradek> ok gotta go
[13:23:49] <skunkworks> bye
[13:26:10] <skunkworks> hey - could it be something like the shared video memory in this thing?
[15:28:22] <SWP_Away> SWP_Away is now known as SWPadnos
[17:09:17] <bill2or3> blech shared.
[17:32:49] <giacus> try to search :
[17:32:53] <giacus> http://images.google.cn/images?svnum=10&hl=zh-CN&lr=&cr=countryCN&q=dalai+lama
[17:33:21] <giacus> and after ..
[17:33:47] <giacus> http://images.google.it/images?q=dalai+lama&hl=it&btnG=Cerca+immagini
[17:33:54] <giacus> look at the diff ..
[18:08:19] <sam_> holy crap - you guys did some nice work. Playing on the 1.8ghz machine and a period of .00002 is very usable. (.00001 isn't ;)
[18:13:18] <sam_> that would give me the option of 600ipm on z ;)
[18:13:58] <sam_> oops - I actually mean 150ipm
[18:14:13] <sam_> still - that is probably faster than it will actually go
[18:14:45] <bill2or3> 600 is lots.
[18:14:45] <bill2or3> heh
[18:15:44] <sam_> multiplied when I ment to divide ;)
[18:17:50] <sam_> alex?
[18:17:56] <sam_> are you there?
[18:22:39] <sam_> Cradek: ?
[19:03:19] <dmessier> Hello all
[19:04:17] <A-L-P-H-A> hey fellow durhamian.
[19:04:34] <dmessier> whats up ALPHA
[19:04:50] <A-L-P-H-A> digesting a roti I ate an hour ago.
[19:05:09] <dmessier> i ditched work early.. havin a pint
[19:05:14] <A-L-P-H-A> nice
[19:05:23] <dmessier> and some veggies
[19:05:25] <A-L-P-H-A> i should put a couple of beers into my fridge.
[19:05:54] <dmessier> man you should see the changes in my plce of work...
[19:06:20] <A-L-P-H-A> ?
[19:07:08] <dmessier> we now have a Quick Rsponse Team (QRT) .. red shirt trouble shooting brigade.... i was subconded..sp??
[19:07:18] <dmessier> response
[19:07:24] <A-L-P-H-A> subconded?
[19:07:29] <A-L-P-H-A> subcontracted.
[19:07:30] <A-L-P-H-A> ?
[19:07:55] <dmessier> donated... offered up as sacraficial lamb.... however you say it...
[19:08:28] <A-L-P-H-A> you were subcontracted?
[19:09:00] <A-L-P-H-A> you were tossed to someone that was willing to pay your co. to pick you up?
[19:09:49] <dmessier> no im on contract any way.... but i dont get to do what i used to do... and i must wear a RED shirt... we provide 3 shift support to the machine shop and production dept
[22:22:29] <skunkworks> dead again
[22:23:23] <Jymmm> seems that way
[22:23:35] <giacus> uhm
[22:23:55] <giacus> jyyyyymmmm
[22:23:57] <giacus> :d
[22:23:59] <Jymmm> But, if you start talking about how suck the new code is, they'll come out of the woodwork!
[22:24:18] <giacus> Jymmm: any new job ?
[22:24:34] <skunkworks> actually I was playing with emc2 earlier - it just gets better and better.
[22:24:37] <SWPadnos> Jymmm is teh suxx0rz
[22:24:41] <giacus> is you cnc machining ?
[22:25:17] <skunkworks> just on a test machine - playing with how fast I can make it go.
[22:25:48] <giacus> skunkworks: how much ?
[22:27:09] <skunkworks> mathmatically it looks like I could run x and y at 550ipm and z 150ipm
[22:27:29] <skunkworks> I don't think the mechanics will do that though
[22:27:34] <Jymmm> 550IPM ?!
[22:27:34] <skunkworks> but the headroom is nice
[22:27:44] <SWPadnos> what diameter are your screws?
[22:28:00] <skunkworks> x and y are about 1.25
[22:28:15] <Jymmm> skunkworks whats the travel?
[22:28:19] <SWPadnos> ok. those shuldn't be longer than about 60 inches then
[22:28:33] <skunkworks> 5 feet ;)
[22:28:36] <SWPadnos> heh
[22:31:04] <skunkworks> period of .00002
[22:38:15] <bill2or3> bleh.
[22:38:20] <bill2or3> apparently spindles are complicated.
[22:38:53] <robin_z> meep?
[22:39:01] <robin_z> hey, watch out for this scam thats going around the supermarkets at the moment .. two girls offer to pack your bags and carry them in exchange for a lift to another nearby shop, once in your car one of them gives you a blow-job, afterwards you are so distracted, you fail to notice they steal your shopping whne they get out. A nasty trick indeed.
[22:39:16] <robin_z> I fell for it last Tuesday
[22:39:19] <robin_z> wednesday
[22:39:21] <robin_z> friday
[22:39:25] <robin_z> and twice on saturday
[22:47:17] <Jymmm> lol
[23:38:38] <giacus> G night
