[07:30:10] <anonimasu> morning
[07:33:19] <alex_joni> morning
[09:17:43] <anonimasu> *aywns*
[09:18:01] <anonimasu> nothing like welding some aluminium that escaped the depths of hell in the morning!
[09:18:05] <anonimasu> it's good to be alive ^_^
[09:51:15] <alex_joni> lol
[10:27:59] <A-L-P-H-A> Someone in here may know. I have multiple places, where I work. I want to maintain a locale copy of my files all multple machines, where the newest is always available. There will be times, when the laptop isn't connect to the internet. The two other sites will pretty much always have internet.
[10:28:39] <A-L-P-H-A> I have a few options. SVN, CVS, Rsync...
[10:30:46] <A-L-P-H-A> Is there a deamon (sp) that would monitor saves automatically?
[10:33:26] <A-L-P-H-A> There is an app that microsoft bought up, called Foldershare, which does this. It does the job, and monitors for changes constantly. Keeps metadata about the file as well. So computer A, keeps track of when the last update was. When the last Change was. If I don't sync it, and make chanes on computer B. Now I have two new files, instead of one. Which now leads me to a separate problem. Which is of course, whic
[10:34:16] <alex_joni> A-L-P-H-A: look at rsnapshot
[10:34:30] <alex_joni> http://www.rsnapshot.org/
[10:35:34] <A-L-P-H-A> interesting.
[10:36:42] <A-L-P-H-A> alex_joni: thanks.
[10:37:19] <alex_joni> np
[10:37:26] <alex_joni> I use it for the obvious backup purposes
[10:37:33] <alex_joni> but it can be used to do what you need
[10:37:53] <A-L-P-H-A> alex_joni: how often does it backup?
[10:38:01] <alex_joni> I have daily and weekly backups
[10:38:14] <alex_joni> but it does incremental backups using hardlinks
[10:39:04] <A-L-P-H-A> that last statement, I don't know... "incremental" and "hardlinks"... how is this incremental? just keeps an old version, and makes copies a new one and somehow journaled?
[10:39:50] <A-L-P-H-A> "journaled" as in the sense of an old microsoft outlook feature, that told me when a file was modified, and backups saved.
[10:47:52] <A-L-P-H-A> alex_joni: not exactly bi-directional... I can only pull, not push changes.
[10:50:19] <A-L-P-H-A> http://www.powerfolder.com/
[10:52:05] <danex> Good Afternoon alex_joni
[11:00:31] <anonimasu> A-L-P-H-A: !
[11:02:04] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: !
[11:02:19] <anonimasu> I tried the spindle yesterday..
[11:02:31] <A-L-P-H-A> :D
[11:02:33] <A-L-P-H-A> made chips?
[11:02:45] <anonimasu> no.. I made salad :D
[11:03:02] <anonimasu> I need to gear my servos 1:2..
[11:03:08] <anonimasu> err 2:1
[11:03:10] <anonimasu> that is..
[11:03:13] <A-L-P-H-A> want them faster?
[11:03:22] <A-L-P-H-A> motor : screw
[11:03:23] <A-L-P-H-A> right?
[11:03:24] <anonimasu> need more torque..
[11:03:25] <anonimasu> yeah
[11:03:33] <A-L-P-H-A> that'd be 1:2 then
[11:03:42] <A-L-P-H-A> I go source : output
[11:03:50] <anonimasu> input:output
[11:03:58] <A-L-P-H-A> 1:2 would be 1/2 slower, but 2x the torque
[11:04:02] <anonimasu> yep
[11:04:11] <A-L-P-H-A> so you were right the first time. :P :)
[11:04:23] <A-L-P-H-A> I currently have it like 1:2 as well.
[11:04:28] <anonimasu> well my servos stalled/geckos turned off..
[11:04:35] <anonimasu> and the alu gummed up my endmill..
[11:04:38] <A-L-P-H-A> oht-oh.
[11:04:47] <anonimasu> and and the spindle didnt go down from 3500rpm..
[11:04:58] <anonimasu> it just kept spinning with the molten alu.. :D
[11:05:08] <A-L-P-H-A> if the alu is gumming up... coolant helps.
[11:05:11] <anonimasu> yeah..
[11:05:15] <anonimasu> I know
[11:05:25] <anonimasu> I had my drives on a table besides the mill..
[11:05:49] <A-L-P-H-A> You're probably forcing too much too fast... I've gummed up some expensive stuff. :(
[11:05:52] <A-L-P-H-A> wasn't happy about that.
[11:05:58] <anonimasu> nah
[11:06:05] <anonimasu> I couldnt feed enough to keep cutting..
[11:06:08] <anonimasu> to keep it gumming up
[11:06:13] <anonimasu> 3 flutes..
[11:06:19] <A-L-P-H-A> you dwelled on it?
[11:06:26] <anonimasu> yeah.. it was too slow..
[11:06:46] <anonimasu> the servos coudlnt keep the table.. then I took 3mm..
[11:06:52] <anonimasu> :)
[11:07:04] <A-L-P-H-A> ummmmm.
[11:07:13] <A-L-P-H-A> so you're sying you want to go 1:2, but that'd slow your speeds down.
[11:07:28] <anonimasu> the problem is more a torque issue..
[11:07:36] <A-L-P-H-A> okie.
[11:07:41] <anonimasu> the drives went off.. and it gummed up..
[11:07:51] <anonimasu> but it was at the edge since I werent running uncooled..
[11:07:52] <anonimasu> err
[11:07:54] <A-L-P-H-A> brb... going to make some coffee, and have some cake, and throw my laundry in the drier
[11:07:57] <anonimasu> with coolant..
[11:08:15] <anonimasu> 1mm passes went really nice
[11:08:24] <anonimasu> without any issues..
[11:12:22] <A-L-P-H-A> what was the depth of cut?
[11:12:25] <A-L-P-H-A> 1mm x 1mm?
[11:12:36] <anonimasu> 3no..
[11:12:46] <anonimasu> 1x10
[11:12:57] <anonimasu> 1down 10 across..
[11:13:02] <A-L-P-H-A> 3flt 1 x 10, at what feedrate?
[11:13:13] <anonimasu> that was with a 2 flute
[11:13:19] <A-L-P-H-A> oh
[11:13:19] <anonimasu> the 3flute was a cheap endmill too
[11:13:22] <anonimasu> might have been dull..
[11:13:27] <anonimasu> changed to a ghüring :D
[11:13:27] <A-L-P-H-A> could have been.
[11:13:34] <anonimasu> lets calc
[11:13:43] <A-L-P-H-A> I got like 5 3lft ball nose endmills carbide, for cheap on ebay.
[11:13:51] <anonimasu> 2500/2*0.065
[11:13:57] <anonimasu> err wrong.
[11:14:00] <A-L-P-H-A> I thinke they were like $25 or $30 after shipping for all 5
[11:14:02] <anonimasu> 3500/2*0.065
[11:14:12] <anonimasu> err wtf..
[11:14:16] <anonimasu> my numbers does not match..
[11:14:22] <A-L-P-H-A> heh
[11:14:38] <A-L-P-H-A> brb... boiling water
[11:14:39] <anonimasu> it's speed/flutes*feed per flute..
[11:14:42] <anonimasu> right?
[11:15:04] <anonimasu> 3500/3*0.076
[11:16:42] <anonimasu> CHIP LOAD = IPM / (RPM x F) or IPR / F
[11:17:56] <anonimasu> *sighs*
[11:17:59] <anonimasu> please do help me out :D
[11:24:25] <A-L-P-H-A> k
[11:24:26] <A-L-P-H-A> back
[11:24:31] <A-L-P-H-A> with cake and coffee!
[11:24:42] <anonimasu> hehe
[11:24:48] <A-L-P-H-A> okay
[11:24:49] <anonimasu> my head is breaking
[11:24:51] <A-L-P-H-A> it's this...
[11:24:52] <anonimasu> :)
[11:25:13] <A-L-P-H-A> I got a calculator for this
[11:26:00] <A-L-P-H-A> http://carbidedepot.com/formulas-milling.htm
[11:26:16] <A-L-P-H-A> hey timeguy
[11:26:36] <A-L-P-H-A> my eyes feel soo weird with these new glasses
[11:34:56] <anonimasu> iab
[11:35:13] <anonimasu> mm/min :/
[11:37:03] <anonimasu> hm..
[11:37:57] <anonimasu> A-L-P-H-A: dosent make sense
[11:38:05] <A-L-P-H-A> what does?
[11:38:10] <A-L-P-H-A> what are you trying to calculate?
[11:38:17] <A-L-P-H-A> what metric?
[11:38:33] <anonimasu> yeah
[11:38:35] <anonimasu> mm
[11:38:37] <anonimasu> mm/min
[11:38:44] <A-L-P-H-A> mm / min? feed rate?
[11:38:52] <anonimasu> or m/min
[11:38:52] <anonimasu> yeah
[11:39:28] <A-L-P-H-A> okay. so you're spinning at 3500rpm, 3 flt, 0.076mm per tooth.
[11:39:33] <anonimasu> yeah
[11:40:06] <anonimasu> that should be rpm*flutes*0.076 ?
[11:40:21] <anonimasu> but my memory's broken
[11:40:35] <A-L-P-H-A> so that's 798mm/min
[11:40:48] <anonimasu> yeah..
[11:40:49] <A-L-P-H-A> 0.798m/min
[11:40:53] <anonimasu> is that calulation right?
[11:40:56] <A-L-P-H-A> yup
[11:40:59] <anonimasu> thanks!
[11:41:03] <A-L-P-H-A> np
[11:41:06] <anonimasu> :D
[11:41:15] <anonimasu> lets see..
[11:41:21] <anonimasu> 3500*3*0.076
[11:41:29] <anonimasu> err yeah..
[11:41:33] <anonimasu> I were feeding too fast then..
[11:41:46] <A-L-P-H-A> probably. :)
[11:41:50] <anonimasu> :/
[11:41:52] <anonimasu> I need more rpm.
[11:42:05] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: umm... then you may get friction welding
[11:42:17] <anonimasu> and coolant :)
[11:42:32] <A-L-P-H-A> won't matter... coolant wouldn't have a chance to cool it enough.
[11:43:22] <A-L-P-H-A> you'll weld the metal to it... even on my machine I can get friction welding/melting... it just looks like putty that gets pushed along.
[11:44:22] <A-L-P-H-A> Check the tool's recommend usage speeds, and feedrates. There is usually two settings... one to maximize tool life, and the other is to minimize cutting time.
[11:44:50] <A-L-P-H-A> they usually have a chart with the product sales phamlet... [assuming you bought them from a supplier, not ebay]
[11:45:00] <A-L-P-H-A> your supplier should be able to give you those numbers.
[11:47:01] <A-L-P-H-A> even if you had a machine, that's the best in the world, there are restrictions on what it can do... it won't be cutting giant chunks out, with a surface finish that's mirror. I'll be able to haul out lots of material, but it'll still need to finish it. But the tooling for that, is most likely different from what you're using.
[11:47:50] <anonimasu> yeah
[11:47:51] <A-L-P-H-A> don't expect your machine to cut alu like it was foam
[11:48:09] <A-L-P-H-A> I made that mistake, and wasted maybe $200 of bits.
[11:48:16] <A-L-P-H-A> cnc is such a damn expensive hobby
[11:48:20] <anonimasu> hm.. it does.. actually..
[11:48:26] <anonimasu> I'm going to gear my spindle.
[11:48:39] <anonimasu> ;)
[11:48:48] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: ? it does what? cut alu like it was foam.
[11:48:55] <anonimasu> not really..
[11:49:07] <anonimasu> too low rpm
[11:49:07] <anonimasu> :9
[11:49:08] <anonimasu> :9
[11:49:13] <anonimasu> :)
[11:49:21] <A-L-P-H-A> okay... If you feel safe enough... try this... 2.5cm dia endmill, go in at a depth of 2.5cm, slot mill foam.
[11:49:52] <anonimasu> haha
[11:49:58] <A-L-P-H-A> now, try it with alu. See what happens. I don't think 2Kw is enough power... [I'm only guessing here now...]
[11:50:03] <anonimasu> 2=?
[11:50:05] <anonimasu> 4kw.
[11:50:13] <anonimasu> :D
[11:50:15] <A-L-P-H-A> howmany HP is that?
[11:50:18] <anonimasu> though it's still 10 too little
[11:50:27] <anonimasu> 5.44
[11:50:36] <anonimasu> kw*1.36=hp
[11:50:42] <A-L-P-H-A> DUDE you're a bridge port style machine... not a CNC milling centre, where it has like 50HP inside.
[11:52:36] <A-L-P-H-A> k, bought all my connectors today... I should be able to finish cleaning up my case.. also need like 18" of piano hinge to mount the top of the case.
[11:52:39] <anonimasu> that would be 36kw
[11:53:09] <anonimasu> well, I have a pump that'll deliver. :D
[11:53:34] <anonimasu> I think 150kw.
[11:54:04] <A-L-P-H-A> I forgot who got angry the other day... was it you or alex_joni... someone got annoyed at skunkworks, cause he was making a servo driver...
[11:54:17] <anonimasu> no..
[11:54:24] <anonimasu> I'm not angry at sane projects..
[11:54:27] <anonimasu> neither is alex..
[11:54:42] <A-L-P-H-A> well, not angry... annoyed.
[11:54:49] <anonimasu> hm.. not me
[11:54:50] <A-L-P-H-A> called him cheap or something.
[11:55:17] <A-L-P-H-A> <shrug> not important... just thought it was funny... and this situation kind amused me...
[11:55:32] <A-L-P-H-A> 1.) I don't know enough. 2.) I think it's kinda crazy what you're trying.
[11:56:21] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: ... lets put things in perspective, so I understand. 1.) what are you trying to accomplish. Mas speeds of the machine, and max milling speeds of you machine in whatever given materials.
[11:56:29] <A-L-P-H-A> Mas = Max
[11:57:16] <A-L-P-H-A> having a machine that's lightning fast, that can't machine isn't too impressive. Having a machine that's super slow, but can haul out canyons in stock... cool but not practical.
[11:57:26] <anonimasu> yeah..
[11:57:52] <anonimasu> though it depends on what you are machining..
[11:57:57] <A-L-P-H-A> like... for me... my objective was simple... make it cut stuff... speed will come later if I so choose.
[11:58:13] <A-L-P-H-A> it does depend on what you're machine. I mainly deal with 6061-T6.
[11:58:16] <anonimasu> this is my second machine.. the issue at the other one was always lack of torque..
[11:59:05] <anonimasu> I'll be machining loads of 6061-t6..
[12:00:54] <A-L-P-H-A> I currently run at 2200rpm, and go between 7ipm to like 16ipm. which isn't fast... but my machine isn't very rigid. It's only a benchtop mill.
[12:01:38] <anonimasu> Im running something like 4m/min with turbocnc..
[12:02:04] <anonimasu> if I gear 1:2 and run emc instead I'll have something like 5m/min rapids..
[12:02:05] <A-L-P-H-A> that's also a two flute
[12:02:06] <anonimasu> even geared..
[12:02:31] <anonimasu> my machine is super rigid.. :)
[12:03:28] <A-L-P-H-A> hmm... 0.0032" per tooth.
[12:03:32] <A-L-P-H-A> I can probably go faster.
[12:03:50] <anonimasu> the trouble with the manual one is that the drill spindle dosent have proper bearings for taking heavy cuts..
[12:04:00] <A-L-P-H-A> swap bearings?
[12:04:05] <anonimasu> no..
[12:04:07] <anonimasu> it's a drill spindle...
[12:04:19] <anonimasu> it's adequate.
[12:04:31] <anonimasu> it does 10mm x 10mm in iron..
[12:04:50] <anonimasu> though the surface finish dosent get extremely good...
[12:06:27] <anonimasu> so to be able to mill at 5m/min it's..
[12:07:07] <anonimasu> 5=x*3*0.076
[12:10:37] <anonimasu> 22000rpm
[12:10:38] <anonimasu> :S
[12:11:21] <anonimasu> well, I guess I need to slow down.
[12:12:24] <anonimasu> A-L-P-H-A: as you said.
[12:12:46] <A-L-P-H-A> I say a lot of things
[12:12:53] <anonimasu> yeah.. but the calculations matches up..
[12:12:57] <A-L-P-H-A> What statement in particular this time? :)
[12:13:03] <anonimasu> about speed..
[12:13:07] <A-L-P-H-A> :) oh
[12:13:09] <anonimasu> to machine at 5m/min I need 22000rpm.
[12:13:13] <anonimasu> with the same chipload..
[12:13:38] <anonimasu> though I have 10m/min rapids. :D
[12:13:41] <anonimasu> almost
[12:13:42] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: there's also a SFM... surface feet per minute.
[12:13:52] <anonimasu> yeah..
[12:14:00] <A-L-P-H-A> which is how FAST that cutter head should be moving in contact with the material.
[12:14:14] <A-L-P-H-A> I forget the numbers, but for Carbide, it's pretty fast.
[12:14:21] <A-L-P-H-A> say 650'/min.
[12:14:36] <A-L-P-H-A> with a depth of cut per tooth of 0.008"
[12:15:03] <anonimasu> 0.2mm..
[12:15:20] <anonimasu> well all this means is that I can gear down to 1:2
[12:15:25] <anonimasu> and still have a pretty fast machine..
[12:15:27] <anonimasu> :)
[12:15:27] <A-L-P-H-A> sure... the numbers are in machinery's handbook... but at only a guide... not the LAW.
[12:15:37] <A-L-P-H-A> robin_sz: posted something good.
[12:15:41] <A-L-P-H-A> about calculating feedrates.
[12:15:53] <anonimasu> 0.076 is what he's running in alu..
[12:15:53] <A-L-P-H-A> I gotta pull that stuff back up... but they're on my laptop.
[12:16:00] <anonimasu> for 6mm cutters..
[12:16:08] <A-L-P-H-A> give me units.
[12:16:10] <A-L-P-H-A> 0.076?
[12:16:17] <anonimasu> 0.076mm per tooth
[12:16:36] <A-L-P-H-A> yeah, I'm running about that too.
[12:16:42] <A-L-P-H-A> just a smudge more...
[12:16:53] <A-L-P-H-A> surface finish comes out so clean...
[12:16:58] <anonimasu> it sounds good when machining..
[12:17:07] <anonimasu> :9
[12:17:08] <anonimasu> :)
[12:17:08] <A-L-P-H-A> yeah... it's smooth... that's what I'm looking for.
[12:17:12] <anonimasu> me too
[12:17:20] <A-L-P-H-A> if you cut too fast, you start tearing the material away from the stock.
[12:17:31] <A-L-P-H-A> or start welding that material.
[12:17:44] <A-L-P-H-A> there's a sweet spot, you just have to find it... and it's different for different machines.
[12:18:14] <A-L-P-H-A> okay... no one say anything anymore. skunkworks's here.
[12:18:48] <anonimasu> yeah..
[12:18:51] <skunkworks> logger_aj: bookmark
[12:18:51] <skunkworks> I'm feeling lazy .. but here's the log anyways: http://81.196.65.201/irc/irc.freenode.net:6667/emc/2006-10-19#T12-18-51
[12:18:55] <skunkworks> so there
[12:18:57] <skunkworks> :)
[12:19:03] <anonimasu> A-L-P-H-A: going to machine a gearbox/beltbox for my motors..
[12:19:13] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: umm... suggestion
[12:19:25] <A-L-P-H-A> fold it out of sheet metal isntead... it'll be cheaper, and quicker.
[12:19:58] <anonimasu> I have 25mm x 150mm stock..
[12:20:10] <anonimasu> and I need practice..
[12:20:18] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: ... well ... unless you want to do it for fun...
[12:20:25] <A-L-P-H-A> go enjoy. :)
[12:20:36] <A-L-P-H-A> ciao. I'm going to the workshop and rewiring my power supply.
[12:20:40] <anonimasu> well machined things are much nicer ;)
[12:20:54] <anonimasu> I could always weld up a bracket.. but when I have my machine running why?
[12:21:13] <anonimasu> A-L-P-H-A: if I keep a proper feed I can probably take 5mm a cut..
[12:21:53] <anonimasu> that's something like 5 depth passes..
[12:22:30] <anonimasu> if I have to change the Z manually at the tabs to keep it in place..
[12:22:37] <anonimasu> and 5 more for the inside :)
[12:22:49] <anonimasu> A-L-P-H-A: so it's not much machining..
[12:22:58] <anonimasu> ciao..
[12:24:47] <skunkworks> Nice. Cool when you can start to make chips :)
[12:26:27] <anonimasu> as soon as I've facemilled a heatsink for my drives..
[12:26:33] <anonimasu> and wired up a controller box :9
[12:26:49] <anonimasu> around 19:00 tonight
[12:26:57] <anonimasu> it's 14:27..
[12:27:03] <anonimasu> I quit work at 16:00..
[12:27:04] <anonimasu> :)
[12:27:05] <skunkworks> we have the breakout board hanging between the computer and the drives with the wires ;)
[12:27:13] <anonimasu> me too :D
[12:28:30] <anonimasu> skunkworks: who got angry at you yesterday
[12:28:31] <anonimasu> `?
[12:29:25] <skunkworks> someone got angry?
[12:29:36] <anonimasu> I have no idea :D
[12:30:54] <skunkworks> sorry - I have no clue what you are talking about..
[12:30:57] <alex_joni> not really
[12:31:04] <alex_joni> anonimasu: I think it was about Bo^Dick
[12:31:18] <skunkworks> really? About what?
[12:31:23] <alex_joni> but not really angry.. just thinking it's not very productive what he's doing :D
[12:31:58] <anonimasu> alex_joni: im going to make chips today :)
[12:32:05] <anonimasu> 2 axis chips :D
[12:32:22] <alex_joni> chio?
[12:32:34] <anonimasu> while not as crisp as 3 axis ones they'll be a nice snack :)
[12:32:47] <alex_joni> * alex_joni wants some peperoni flavoured
[12:32:55] <anonimasu> alex_joni: yeah figuerd it was about him :)
[12:33:13] <alex_joni> skunkworks is a nice guy, we're not picking on him :D
[12:33:52] <anonimasu> I dunno Bo^Dick might be nie too.. *grins*
[12:33:59] <anonimasu> see how jymmm turned out..
[12:34:38] <anonimasu> *grins*
[12:35:53] <alex_joni> how do you mean that? jymmm _is_ a nice guy :)
[12:36:10] <anonimasu> haha.. remember when he built he's won drives?
[12:36:12] <anonimasu> own..
[12:36:26] <alex_joni> not really
[12:36:50] <anonimasu> ok :)
[12:36:58] <alex_joni> but I might suffer from memory losses
[12:37:14] <anonimasu> selective amnesia :D
[12:37:18] <alex_joni> * alex_joni wants one of these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=370630&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation
[12:39:58] <skunkworks> I on the other hand am very productive ;)
[12:40:46] <skunkworks> alex_joni: Looks like a cool little package
[12:41:04] <anonimasu> http://www.almaskin.se/testpart.jpg
[12:41:31] <anonimasu> though without bearings and stuff :)
[12:41:47] <skunkworks> anonimasu: what are you drawing that in - and how are you going to create the tool path
[12:42:01] <skunkworks> nice btw
[12:45:22] <anonimasu> solidworks..
[12:45:58] <anonimasu> it's a hack..

[12:50:13] <anonimasu> ^_^
[12:53:00] <anonimasu> skunkworks: I just hope it turns out as nice when I machine it :)

[14:47:47] <A-L-P-H-A> skunkworks: someone got annoyed at you, and asked if you're doing something cause you're cheap, or what... I forget who it was that said that to you
[14:47:58] <A-L-P-H-A> anonimasu: the testpart.jpg doesn't work.
[14:54:03] <gkamysz> Good morning, well here anyway. I just wanted to drop in to let you guys know, Cradek, and others, that with your help my machine is up and running. I made a panel for the driver box so far. Thanks!
[14:54:47] <cradek> cool
[14:54:51] <jepler> gkamysz: hooray
[14:55:13] <skunkworks>
[14:56:10] <gkamysz> I still have to reconfigure the home switches, but I think it's OK. On a side note i took a contract job doing some drafting and I'll be setting up a Torchmate table.
[14:58:18] <gkamysz> I also figured out the base period and velocity stuff. I made a simple spreadsheet to help with that. Is there anywhere I can put it?
[14:58:48] <cradek> I think you can upload to the wiki, but I'm not sure about non-images
[14:59:23] <gkamysz> If not I'll try to link to my site.
[15:00:54] <cradek> any images of your machine and panel?
[15:02:15] <SWPadnos> you should be able to upload anything, as long as it's small enough
[15:02:20] <gkamysz> My machine is here, panel pictures in a little bit. http://www.edfinfo.com/x/temp/other.html
[15:02:25] <SWPadnos> I think the limit is 200k or so (I can check)
[15:02:52] <gkamysz> I'll look into the wiki tonight.
[15:04:26] <A-L-P-H-A> gkamysz: you made the base out of concrete? is that heavy enough?
[15:04:45] <gkamysz> Actually you can see an earlier version of the panel in the link. I should have saved the aluminum for my final piece, but now I have a piece of plexiglass.
[15:04:51] <gkamysz> The base is 160Lb
[15:05:54] <gkamysz> The base plate is not rigid enough however. It's engineered stone. my buddy made it for me gratis, but I thought it would be stiffer. it will be reinforced.
[15:06:38] <A-L-P-H-A> as I see here... http://www.edfinfo.com/x/temp/mill060312.jpg
[15:07:11] <A-L-P-H-A> maybe large box tubing filled with concrete... ? [just an idea]
[15:08:20] <gkamysz> I paid about $750 for the slides. They are on crossed roller bearings with preloaded ballscrews, made by Aerotech. The specs are very good.
[15:08:36] <A-L-P-H-A> how big is this?
[15:09:11] <gkamysz> Travels X=12" Y=12" Z=6"
[15:09:58] <A-L-P-H-A> gkamysz: it looks like great fun...
[15:10:41] <gkamysz> I have a Heidenan(sp) 24" slide that might replace Y axis if it fits.
[15:10:53] <A-L-P-H-A> but for the amount you've spent, wow... I could have got a used bridgeport, or cincinatti iron for $1K, plus probably another $200 shipped.
[15:11:22] <gkamysz> Yeah but I'm in a townhouse now.
[15:11:31] <SWPadnos> believe it or not, you wouldn't get that much Y or Z travel on a Bridgeport
