Back
[00:12:30] <crepincdotcom> * crepincdotcom yoinked two 12 amp servo amplifiers today
[00:16:58] <K`zan> More SNOW :-) LOTS of FAST FAT FLAKES!
[01:03:24] <Jymmmm> .au had 3 FOOT of hail yesterday, and it's summer over there.
[01:22:50] <cradek> skunkworks: is the pinout on http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.1/html/hal/pluto_servo.html the current one you're using?
[01:26:10] <skunkworks> cradek: Yes - I had printed it out and it looks to be the same as my copy.
[01:27:03] <skunkworks> cradek: and I know that the encoder 0-3 inputs work... And a few of the inputs.
[01:28:26] <cradek> thanks
[01:28:37] <cradek> I'm going to try to build my setup into an old external scsi box
[01:29:00] <cradek> I even found the very old style db25-to-scsi cable - now I have to find the pinout to see if it's fully wired so it will be usable
[01:29:09] <skunkworks> Nice.
[01:29:36] <cradek> um, any need for a Connor 340 scsi drive dated 1994?
[01:30:12] <skunkworks> I have a 9gb double height scsi drive.
[01:30:15] <cradek> probably even works!
[01:30:23] <skunkworks> and a few 1gb ones
[01:30:41] <cradek> I have a 1GB full height scsi drive in my AT
[01:30:57] <skunkworks> when it powers up - the whole computer twists a bit. ;)
[01:31:01] <cradek> bought it used for about $700 iirc
[01:31:02] <cradek> heh
[01:31:47] <skunkworks> yah - the 9gb drive was for our novell 3.mumble server. I remeber it being quite spendy
[01:33:00] <cradek> I was fortunate enough to never run novell at home
[01:33:16] <cradek> had 'lantastic' (dos) before using linux
[01:33:37] <cradek> needing a dedicated machine for a fileserver was a huge drawback at the time
[01:33:44] <skunkworks> lantastic was a really good product for its time.
[01:35:00] <skunkworks> we actually had a network in a box that had novell lite. we used that at home with ne1000 compatable network cards.. was it ne1000?
[01:35:16] <skunkworks> coax
[01:35:22] <skunkworks> 10base2
[01:35:29] <jtr> might have been ne2000
[01:35:32] <cradek> ne2000 was the common one
[01:35:40] <cradek> not sure if there was ne1000 - may have been
[01:35:42] <skunkworks> ne2000 that could be.. that sounds right
[01:36:26] <skunkworks> then there was windows 3.11 for workgroups ;)
[01:36:35] <cradek> yeah that's when we started using tcpip I think
[01:36:51] <jtr> I've still got a couple or three, and the 10base2 / 10baseT hub
[01:37:00] <cradek> or maybe with dos - the ms lanman client supported tcpip
[01:37:29] <cradek> it's been too long to remember the details - but, I can still network dos, which few can still do
[01:37:56] <cradek> don't tell the turbocnc people :-)
[01:38:09] <skunkworks> I mainly did it to play doom and decent..
[01:38:30] <skunkworks> ipx/spx
[01:40:00] <bpmw> Hi Guys, I seriously need some help. Ubuntu updated last night and I didn't know it also updates EMC. I was still running an old testing version. Now I can't find the new ini file to put my values into. Help Please..Vern
[01:41:32] <cradek> since you're going to have to do some work to update anyway, you should jump to 2.1.1 which was recently released (you probably have 2.0.5 now)
[01:41:42] <cradek> let me find the instructions for that
[01:42:07] <cradek> http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?UpdatingTo2.1
[01:42:52] <cradek> do you know how old your testing version was, and where your working custom config is?
[01:43:28] <bpmw> I Can find my config file. Testing version over a year old.
[01:43:56] <cradek> just for safety, you might want to copy your config to some other media before you do anything else.
[01:44:10] <cradek> then once you get to 2.1.1, you can merge in your changes
[01:44:16] <bpmw> ok i can do that.
[01:44:17] <cradek> is it a stepper machine?
[01:44:24] <bpmw> yes
[01:44:37] <cradek> does it have switches, or spindle control, or anything else complex?
[01:44:46] <bpmw> no
[01:45:09] <cradek> ok this will be really easy then - you will have to fix up your scales, velocity and acceleration, and that's about all
[01:45:33] <cradek> go ahead and do the stuff on that UpdatingTo2.1 page, and then come back
[01:45:45] <cradek> (don't forget to back up your config first)
[01:46:20] <bpmw> ok. See you in a while. Vern...
[01:46:44] <bpmw> Oh and thanks Chris!!!
[01:47:23] <cradek> welcome! no problem
[01:48:04] <cradek> now where are my IDC DB25 connectors?
[01:51:08] <skunkworks> I really don't know Chris. sorry
[01:51:52] <cradek> under something, I bet
[01:52:25] <cradek> bpmw: was your system a breezy (5.10) install? and if so, did you update it to dapper?
[01:52:45] <cradek> I didn't think of that - I bet it is, which is going to make it a little more complex
[01:54:20] <skunkworks> it wouldn't have done it automatically though would have it?
[01:54:36] <cradek> not exactly, but there's a button on the update manager to make it easy
[01:54:49] <skunkworks> right
[02:01:01] <bpmw> Cradek, the install.sh is just opening in g-edit?
[02:02:34] <cradek> bpmw: let's back up, I need a better handle on what's going on here
[02:02:41] <cradek> was your system breezy (ubuntu 5.10)?
[02:03:07] <bpmw> i think it WAS not shure what it is now.
[02:03:35] <cradek> so you don't know if you installed breezy updates, or updated it to dapper (6.06)? you can do both of those things in the breezy update manager
[02:04:12] <bpmw> I dont think i did the dapper one. how do i tell
[02:04:14] <skunkworks> system-about ubuntu
[02:05:15] <cradek> bpmw: can you download and burn a CD?
[02:06:05] <bpmw> Yes. I'll have to go back into ther house to do it though.
[02:06:32] <bpmw> Systemm about ubuntu not telling anything.
[02:07:08] <cradek> if you did a breezy->dapper update, there's a bit of a mess to clean up, it might be easier to reinstall with the new dapper-emc2 live CD
[02:07:30] <cradek> it's kind of hard to help from here, not knowing exactly what you've got going on over there
[02:08:37] <bpmw> Will i lose all my networking. If so Id like to try something else first. I had a B***h of a time getting nfs and smb to work.
[02:08:52] <cradek> ok
[02:09:09] <cradek> yeah, you'd have to do that stuff again if you reinstalled
[02:09:25] <cradek> what's "uname -a" tell you?
[02:09:56] <bpmw> All my .ngc file around 500 of them are on the server in the house.
[02:10:32] <bpmw> one sec.
[02:12:18] <bpmw> Linux Kite 2.612 magma #1
[02:12:38] <cradek> ok that's still breezy
[02:12:46] <cradek> did you reboot after the updates?
[02:12:50] <bpmw> no
[02:13:15] <cradek> ok, after you reboot, you may get something different
[02:13:58] <bpmw> Ok I'll give that a try and be back after its done.
[02:14:05] <cradek> ok
[02:26:06] <robin_sz> meep?
[02:28:21] <cradek> bad sign that he's not back yet.
[02:48:10] <bpmw> Cradek, I found where the new Emc was installed and edited the ini file. seems to be working now. Thanks for your help as always Vern...
[02:49:15] <cradek> ok, you must have 2.0.5 on breezy going then
[02:50:06] <cradek> I was afraid you were in for a rougher ride than that (updated to ubuntu dapper)
[02:50:39] <bpmw> I quess, I have parts to machine so I don't have time to update anymore this week. :).
[02:50:51] <cradek> I'm glad you got it going then
[02:51:24] <cradek> the updates have been safe since 2.0.0 but yours was from before that, so it broke your config
[02:51:42] <bpmw> Thanks again for all your help. Much appreciated.
[02:51:42] <cradek> the best part is you have a lot of bugs fixed now!
[02:51:48] <cradek> you're welcome
[02:52:15] <bpmw> I'll see ya around.. Vern
[02:59:09] <CIA-6> 03jepler 07v2_1_branch * 10emc2/debian/ (changelog emc2.files.in): russian translation of axis from Yuri Tereschenko
[02:59:11] <justin__> justin__ is now known as Twingy
[03:00:22] <cradek> jepler: cool
[03:02:04] <CIA-6> 03jepler 07TRUNK * 10emc2/debian/emc2.files.in: russian translation of axis from Yuri Tereschenko
[03:02:10] <CIA-6> 03jepler 07TRUNK * 10emc2/src/po/ru_axis.po: russian translation of axis from Yuri Tereschenko
[03:46:02] <Twingy> would some one mind rendering this 2"x2"x0.25" g-code
[03:46:11] <Twingy> http://js.cx/~justin/tmp/Part.cnc
[03:46:27] <Twingy> err
[03:46:27] <Twingy> lemme export emc
[03:46:55] <Twingy> ok
[03:52:27] <cradek> Twingy: kind of hard to see what's going on - many lines
[03:53:06] <cradek> some kind of cone with crossings going through it
[03:53:41] <cradek> http://timeguy.com/cradek-files/emc/twingy.png
[03:54:35] <Twingy> it is supposed to be auto-pocketing between the outermost and innermost boundaries
[03:54:45] <Twingy> I was talking about a 3d voxel rendering
[03:54:51] <Twingy> I either have a pocketing bug or bug in my voxel renderer
[03:55:07] <cradek> oh, I'm not set up to do that
[03:55:10] <Twingy> k
[03:55:45] <cradek> but judging from the tool path, something a little nutty is going on
[03:55:53] <Twingy> that's the impression I am getting too
[03:58:10] <cradek> maybe tomorrow jepler can render it for you with gdepth (or maybe others have it set up)
[03:59:44] <Twingy> unless I fix the bug first :)
[04:00:32] <Twingy> after this release I think I've squashed all the buggies
[04:01:02] <cradek> hahaha
[04:01:31] <cradek> oh wait, were you being serious? (I say that about emc sometimes too)
[04:06:06] <Twingy> yea, was being serious :)
[04:06:18] <Twingy> I'm in STABLE mode now
[04:06:22] <Twingy> feature freeze
[04:06:50] <Twingy> it's nice seeing the guys at work using gcam to make simple stuff
[04:12:58] <Twingy> hrm
[04:18:14] <Twingy> found the bug
[04:18:20] <Twingy> k, bed night
[04:22:26] <cradek> goodnight
[05:34:07] <sed_> sed_ is now known as sed
[05:35:18] <sed> sed is now known as sed_
[06:06:36] <tomp> gnite
[09:06:49] <robin_sz> mmm ..
[09:06:57] <robin_sz> gcam question
[09:07:03] <robin_sz> will it import a DXF file?
[09:14:10] <alex_joni> http://gcam.js.cx/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=61
[09:15:44] <alex_joni> http://gcam.js.cx/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=5&highlight=dxf
[10:41:40] <alex_joni> must be raining in Lincoln
[12:32:39] <cradek> http://journalstar.com/articles/2007/03/01/news/local/doc45e6ba0febd3b946687263.txt
[12:33:30] <cradek> wow, I don't remember the last time UNL closed for snow.
[12:34:31] <alex_joni> morning chris
[12:34:34] <alex_joni> still home?
[12:36:06] <cradek> yes
[13:19:43] <alex_joni> morning jeff
[13:20:31] <jepler> hi alex
[13:20:39] <jepler> snow killed my internet, but I'm back now
[13:23:58] <cradek> haha http://www.starcitymall.com/webcam/index.shtml
[13:28:14] <CIA-6> 03jepler 07TRUNK * 10emc2/src/emc/usr_intf/axis/scripts/axis.py:
[13:28:14] <CIA-6> Fix error "UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in
[13:28:14] <CIA-6> position 0-9: ordinal not in range(128)" when the translation of 'continuous'
[13:28:14] <CIA-6> is not ASCII
[13:29:27] <jepler> I am pretty sure that tkinter is returning utf-8 unicode strings here, regardless of the user's actual encoding
[13:30:09] <jepler> the patch worked when I set LANGAUGE=ru LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R, for instance
[13:30:58] <CIA-6> 03jepler 07v2_1_branch * 10emc2/src/emc/usr_intf/axis/scripts/axis.py:
[13:30:58] <CIA-6> Merge rev 1.52: Fix error "UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode
[13:30:58] <CIA-6> characters in position 0-9: ordinal not in range(128)" when the translation of
[13:30:58] <CIA-6> 'continuous' is not ASCII
[14:05:58] <alex_joni> * alex_joni still waits for jeff to continue his idea
[14:06:09] <alex_joni> err.. nm
[14:08:40] <skunkworks> oh - did I miss an idea?
[14:10:11] <alex_joni> * alex_joni missed scrolling to the last page
[14:18:03] <skunkworks> we got an ice/show mix last night - roads where pretty bad out by me.
[14:18:43] <jepler> it's bad here too
[14:18:47] <jepler> I'm taking the day off and staying inside
[14:19:12] <cradek> me too
[14:19:20] <alex_joni> hmm.. that's nice
[14:19:24] <alex_joni> it's warm and sunny here
[14:19:27] <skunkworks> losers
[14:19:29] <alex_joni> maybe 10C +
[14:19:32] <skunkworks> :)
[14:19:46] <jepler> looks like 6" (10cm) or so
[14:19:47] <skunkworks> supposed to get a bunch more today and tonight
[14:19:57] <alex_joni> * alex_joni flexes his muscles
[14:20:01] <alex_joni> skunkworks: who are you calling losers?
[14:20:41] <skunkworks> The people that think they can stay home when there is a 'little' ice and snow.
[14:21:11] <jepler> I'm not a loser -- just someone with a cushy job and plenty of leave
[14:22:08] <skunkworks> ;)
[14:22:35] <skunkworks> * skunkworks is just mad that he didn't think of it.
[14:23:22] <skunkworks> cradek: that means working on your lathe?
[14:23:27] <skunkworks> ;)
[14:25:27] <cradek> I did start last night - mounted the pluto in the box and wired it to the connector on the back
[14:28:20] <alex_joni> isn't it odd to have that much snow in march?
[14:28:31] <alex_joni> or is it common in NE ?
[14:30:55] <skunkworks> we usually get the heaviest snow fall in the feb-march range.
[14:44:11] <alex_joni> bbl
[15:01:30] <jepler> we've had more snow this year than in recent years
[15:31:36] <ogarr> Ubutu partitioned my drive but now I can't get into my Windows XP. It tells me "file system unknown, partition type 0x7. Can someone tell me what the problem is?
[15:41:40] <skunkworks> does now one know how to troubleshoot anymore?
[15:41:42] <skunkworks> http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0geu.gU9OZFCEIBFKFXNyoA?p=partition+unknown+0x7+ubuntu&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-501&x=wrt
[15:42:41] <skunkworks> or spell
[15:46:11] <jepler> it's funny to hear skunkworks complaining about spelling
[15:52:14] <skunkworks> I was complaining about my own spelling
[15:52:26] <skunkworks> 'does no one know...'
[15:57:11] <skunkworks> forgot the ;)
[15:58:24] <jepler> and here I was looking for ogarr's spelling mistake
[15:58:35] <jepler> I just don't see yours anymore
[15:59:37] <skunkworks> * skunkworks wonders if that is good or bad..
[16:39:59] <logger_emc> * logger_emc is already logging
[16:49:41] <LawrenceG> * LawrenceG grumble grumble.... nss update breaks evolution.... mumble mumble
[16:50:56] <LawrenceG> * LawrenceG use LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/firefox evolution & as a workaround until new evolution pkg released
[18:30:18] <cradek_> cradek_ is now known as cradek
[19:05:33] <Jymmmm> Anyone ever do any airbrushing?
[19:07:33] <skunkworks> not I
[19:09:13] <Jymmmm> Me neither, but I have use for it on an upcoming project. I already have a vac pump, just wondering if I can get away with using that instead of buying an airbrush compressor.
[19:12:15] <skunkworks> no clue. I am only decent at color by number. And that is if I really concentrate.
[19:12:32] <Jymmmm> ...and someone else holding the brush?
[19:12:50] <skunkworks> exactly - I am good at deligating
[19:13:21] <Jymmmm> LOL, sounds like me. A hand artist I am not. ^Z is a wonderful thing =)
[19:14:16] <Jymmmm> http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=92403
[19:33:13] <duerz> hello - does anyone know if someone has wrote anything - to use isagraph - for the plc?
[19:38:03] <pier_> Jymmmm: a refrigerator compressor
[19:38:28] <Jymmmm> pier_ Only needs 30psi iirc,
[19:38:37] <pier_> Jymmmm: at least that's what I use to feed my airbrush
[19:39:00] <Jymmmm> pier_ do you use a regulator and a water trap?
[19:39:26] <pier_> Jymmmm: a regulator, a filter and a check valve
[19:39:59] <Jymmmm> pier_ Heh, buy the time I but those piece individually, I might as well buy the compressor with all that stuff =)
[19:40:09] <pier_> Jymmmm: and a dismatled fire estinguisher bottle as a reservoir
[19:40:30] <jepler> duerz: I don't know what isagraph is, but emc2's classicladder has ladder and sequential program editors
[19:40:43] <jepler> duerz: if that's not enough, you can write new components in C using the HAL APIs
[19:41:05] <Jymmmm> pier_ I already have a (very nice) vacuum pump that has an exhaust on it, but no regulator/water trap.
[19:41:06] <pier_> Jymmmm: not sure... I got them for few euros and the fridge compressor from scrap heap
[19:41:08] <jepler> http://membres.lycos.fr/mavati/classicladder/main_sequential_snapshot.png
[19:41:54] <pier_> Jymmmm: yes... I also use it revers as a vacuum pump
[19:42:32] <pier_> Jymmmm: I payed all the accessories 25/30 euros
[19:42:55] <Jymmmm> pier_ Ah, ok. Maybe I'll just use it then, I want to airbrush some paint that is napatha based, so I hope that the solvent will disapate the water enough =)
[19:43:48] <pier_> Jymmmm: mmm I never used that kind of paint... just thinner
[19:44:03] <pier_> Jymmmm: as solvent
[19:44:29] <Jymmmm> pier_: It's the kind used to paint on glass.
[19:44:49] <pier_> Jymmmm: ah.. ok
[19:46:42] <Jymmmm> pier_: Hey, I want to build a cnc foam cutter... and since you've written some stuff already, any hints on your setup?
[19:47:47] <pier_> Jymmmm: really simple and cheap
[19:48:03] <pier_> Jymmmm: the control is not that powerfull
[19:48:30] <pier_> Jymmmm: with tip122 and some ttl
[19:48:50] <pier_> Jymmmm: 10 euros at most
[19:49:14] <pier_> Jymmmm: I made one that works nicely...
[19:49:26] <Jymmmm> pier_: Sorry, I mena actually controlling the CNC portion,
[19:49:38] <pier_> Jymmmm: sw?
[19:49:56] <duerz> i work for MDSI - i just used to st, sfc, style programming.
[19:50:00] <Jymmmm> pier_ yeah (tapered cuts), as well as the CAD/CAM stuff.
[19:50:19] <slundell> I am currently setting up homing/limit switches. Anyone want to hold my hand?
[19:50:33] <pier_> Jymmmm: the parts I cut are pretty standard
[19:50:56] <Jymmmm> * Jymmmm hands slundell two live 220VAC wires... Here, hold these!!!
[19:51:20] <pier_> Jymmmm: two profiles at the ends
[19:51:39] <Jymmmm> pier_ Well, you previously mentioned that you do not draw your stuff, but had some script or something or another.
[19:51:50] <pier_> Jymmmm: a dos program
[19:52:24] <pier_> Jymmmm: I wrote years ago, but suited for aerodynamics profiles
[19:52:25] <slundell> * /me bzzz aaaa iiiii zzzpp....
[19:53:11] <Jymmmm> pier_: Yeah, I'd like to be able to draw up whatever I want to cut, send it thru some CAM, then machien code to the cutter.
[19:53:19] <pier_> Jymmmm: it should be very easy to alter it in order to handle shapes different from profiles
[19:54:00] <pier_> Jymmmm: with tapered stuff the cutting proces become a bit tricky
[19:54:35] <skunkworks> Jymmmm: have you looked at this? http://www.excelcut.netmyne.com/
[19:54:36] <pier_> Jymmmm: as the end of the nic-chr wire move at different speed
[19:54:40] <Jymmmm> pier_: Yeah, I kinda gathered that, but check out this video....
[19:54:42] <skunkworks> (just found it in passing)
[19:55:25] <Jymmmm> pier_ http://www.hotwiredirect.com/products/cnc-foam-cutting-machines/
[19:55:29] <slundell> question was; how do i do separate home swiches and 3 limit switches wired in parallell.
[19:55:33] <Jymmmm> skunkworks: looking...
[19:57:54] <Jymmmm> skunkworks: Cool, thanks. I've bookmarked it, will check it out later in detail.
[19:57:57] <Jymmmm> *****
[19:59:08] <pier_> Jymmmm: very nice machine
[20:00:01] <Jymmmm> The machien is $40,000 USD, Works with BobCAD (included), and includes 3 days of onsite setup and training
[20:00:12] <skunkworks> slundell: are all your limit and home switches hooked in parralel to 1 pin?
[20:00:20] <pier_> * pier_ curious to check the accuracy of that
[20:00:54] <pier_> Jymmmm: in my opinion the operator needs a lot of practice...
[20:01:00] <skunkworks> or are the home switches all hooked to 1 pin and all the limit switches hooked to 1 pin
[20:01:48] <Jymmmm> pier_: Not the operator, they have it setup so the operator can scan a barcode on the workorder and it'll bring up the correct program and go.
[20:01:52] <pier_> Jymmmm: if you need accuracy temperature and umidity of foam are critical for a neat cutting
[20:02:09] <slundell> skunkworks: The home switches are all on separate pins. I want the home switches to also act as limit switches in that direction. The limit switches in the other direction will be wired to one pin.
[20:03:22] <Jymmmm> pier_: I don't think I need THAT much, mostly playing. Already have the NiChr (about 400K' worth), sitcks of 1/2" acme, 15VDC linear PS, and some ball bearing slides.
[20:03:32] <pier_> Jymmmm: and the dimensional offset correction would have to be set up according to the matherial/room-temperature
[20:04:18] <pier_> Jymmmm: at least that's my experience with a simple machine like mine ;)
[20:05:40] <Jymmmm> pier_: Well, it's the design and run of whatever I want to cut in foam that I don't know about just yet. There is DeskCAM, but I'm not sure if I need to use their serial (rs232) drivers or can get away with using my existing xylotex paraport driver.
[20:06:38] <pier_> * pier_ looking at the video
[20:07:46] <pier_> Jymmmm: I use the same board now for both router and foam cutting based on parallel port
[20:08:01] <Jymmmm> To confuse matters.... if one is using microswitches that have NO/NC contacts, there is a way to use one switch as both HOME and LIMIT. But I dont' recall the details atm.
[20:08:45] <Jymmmm> pier_ Ah, ok. Well that helps in costs. Have you used any program to draw and cut something yet?
[20:10:04] <pier_> Jymmmm: as I said a piece of code I wrote to cut profiles
[20:10:33] <pier_> Jymmmm: from NACA 4 digits and data files
[20:11:14] <pier_> Jymmmm: restriction being that the number of segments are the same for both root and tip
[20:14:04] <slundell> skunkworks: ...or i might use serport to get three extra inputs so that i can wire these limit switches on separate pins.
[20:14:49] <alex_joni> hi guys
[20:15:15] <skunkworks> slundell: I don't think what you want to do is a problem.. But my experience with hal is limmited at this point. I was just hoping someone else would chime in,
[20:15:20] <skunkworks> like alex_joni ;)
[20:15:30] <slundell> k
[20:15:35] <pier_> hi alex_joni
[20:18:19] <alex_joni> hi pier_
[20:18:24] <alex_joni> skunkworks: who me?
[20:18:40] <Jymmmm> pier_: so, the code you have produces G-vode output?
[20:18:53] <Jymmmm> g-code
[20:19:01] <pier_> Jymmmm: nope...
[20:19:22] <pier_> Jymmmm: it just reads/calulate a profile and cut it
[20:19:31] <skunkworks> alex_joni: another home/limit question :)
[20:19:41] <pier_> Jymmmm: exports dxf though
[20:19:58] <Jymmmm> pier_ well, that's a good thing =)
[20:21:29] <pier_> Jymmmm: was adding the possibility ro read in dxf ends profile but then gave up
[20:22:12] <Jymmmm> pier_: I guess I just need todo some research on the cad/cam/controller of foam cutting a la CNC
[20:22:41] <alex_joni> slundell: so, what's the problem?
[20:23:33] <pier_> Jymmmm: when I have enough knowledge on EMC I'll try and see if it is suitable to cut wings
[20:23:57] <pier_> Jymmmm: but my learning speed is not G0
[20:24:19] <Jymmmm> pier_ NP, =)
[20:26:13] <pier_> * pier_ watching at http://ajaxcnc.com/lathe_kits.htm
[20:28:00] <pier_> my school has a low budget and retrofitting a common lathe to a cnc one with Emc would save a lot of money
[20:28:58] <skunkworks> pier_: you can do it really cheap depending on how much you want to work.
[20:29:35] <alex_joni> pier_: you have some students to work on this.. right?
[20:29:39] <pier_> Jymmmm: it would be on educational purpose
[20:29:50] <pier_> sorry skunkworks
[20:29:56] <pier_> alex_joni: yes
[20:30:09] <alex_joni> so, there should be enough time & work available
[20:30:36] <pier_> alex_joni: yes... mainly afternoon with top students
[20:30:49] <skunkworks> pier_: how big is the lathe?
[20:31:12] <pier_> alex_joni: we've been asked 20000 euros to repair a colibri
[20:31:31] <alex_joni> colibri? the bird?
[20:31:34] <pier_> skunkworks: not big..
[20:31:40] <alex_joni> ;-)
[20:31:49] <pier_> alex_joni: olivetti crap control on it
[20:32:04] <Jymmmm> a wood lathe?
[20:32:25] <skunkworks> pier_: so it was cnc to begin with?
[20:32:31] <pier_> Jymmmm: no a normal lathe for metal working
[20:32:59] <pier_> well the story is.. we already have a cnc lathe
[20:33:11] <Jymmmm> for colibri all I cna find is the bird
[20:33:20] <pier_> but it broke down... a couple of time
[20:34:07] <pier_> and the cost to repair it is far too much
[20:34:31] <pier_> so I thought that retrofitting a conventional one would be much cheaper
[20:34:55] <alex_joni> hmm.. it might be cheaper to retrofit the one that's broken
[20:35:02] <alex_joni> it's already got motors and such
[20:35:03] <skunkworks> hmm.. If it where me - I would see what you could keep on the existing cnc (maybe servos/drives) and replace the control unit with emc.
[20:35:10] <skunkworks> :)
[20:35:11] <pier_> Jymmmm: http://cgi.ebay.it/TORNIO-CNC-GALAXY_W0QQitemZ230093162278QQihZ013QQcategoryZ25295QQcmdZViewItem
[20:35:32] <pier_> the spindle won't start
[20:36:08] <pier_> and the mainteners technicians make up any excuse to ask for money
[20:36:27] <pier_> perhaps it could be even a fuse
[20:36:42] <skunkworks> I wonder how far jackey lives from you - wasn't he good with electronics ;)
[20:36:47] <pier_> but I don't know where to put hands
[20:37:08] <alex_joni> skunkworks: not even that far
[20:37:37] <alex_joni> I think jacky is 2 hours from San Giovanni (iirc)
[20:37:48] <skunkworks> he hasn't been on much lately
[20:38:08] <pier_> skunkworks: the size of that kind of late http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=UpSell_LogicX&viewitem=&refitem=230093162278&item=230097594118&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget
[20:38:34] <pier_> alex_joni: who is jacky?
[20:39:00] <alex_joni> Giacomo Cusato
[20:39:25] <pier_> alex_joni: ok I think I heard of him on some cnc forum
[20:39:26] <alex_joni> http://www.giacus.org/
[20:39:29] <Jymmmm> pier_: FWIW... http://gm.cnc.free.fr/en/index.html
[20:39:53] <pier_> alex_joni: ok ...now I see
[20:39:57] <skunkworks> pier_: that is pretty big.. your probably looking at some decent sized servos/stepping motors.
[20:40:02] <pier_> alex_joni: I talked to him
[20:40:16] <alex_joni> pier_: he's not that far from you
[20:40:24] <alex_joni> I talked to him about sicily before
[20:40:59] <pier_> alex_joni: yes he's from the south... but not been around in the channel
[20:41:07] <alex_joni> and he said he was there (drive to palermo and back in one day)
[20:41:21] <alex_joni> yeah, he's been away lately
[20:41:23] <pier_> Jymmmm: that's my machine... ;) wood and alu
[20:41:30] <alex_joni> before that he was all the time around ;)
[20:41:59] <pier_> skunkworks: was telling it could be possible to fit Emc in it
[20:46:11] <david__> Hi I've recently upgraded from BDI to the Ubuntu LIVE cd version of EMC, I don't seem to be able to find the "Conversational Program editor" is in on this CD ? if not can anybody remind me what it was called so I can go in search of it. thanks David
[20:46:31] <alex_joni> david__: cp1 I think
[20:48:15] <alex_joni> david__: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/uploads/cp1.tar
[20:48:30] <alex_joni> sorry.. wrong link
[20:48:34] <david__> great thanks David
[20:48:44] <alex_joni> david__: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/uploads/cp1.tgz
[20:52:51] <david__> Excellent, I'm up and running with cp1 once again thanks
[20:53:49] <alex_joni> david__: great..
[20:56:27] <alex_joni> david__: how is everything else working so far?
[20:58:17] <david__> Very well, I like the axis display layout
[20:58:31] <alex_joni> nice to hear that :)
[21:00:20] <skunkworks> david__: what are you running with it?
[21:00:55] <david__> I have a RF 45 mill with Stepper motors
[21:01:33] <pier_> night all and thanks for the chat...
[21:02:36] <alex_joni> night pier
[21:03:24] <pier_> alex_joni: god... it's hot here hope to get to sleep... 20?C this morning ... nite all
[21:03:40] <alex_joni> pier_: we had 14C this afternoon
[21:04:09] <david__> I don't know if anybody is interested, but I've been playing with a little program to convert PNG images to Gcode files. I stuck the alpha version on sourceforge last night, I called it DN-cam. It's writteb in Gambas as I'm not clever and don't get on with C++ stuff :-)
[21:04:23] <alex_joni> david__: what kind of png ?
[21:04:36] <alex_joni> depth map?
[21:05:02] <david__> take 24 bit, converts to mono between 1 -255 layers
[21:05:31] <alex_joni> david__: I think AXIS has something similar
[21:05:45] <alex_joni> try loading an image from the example files included
[21:05:52] <david__> I have not found that yet :-)
[21:13:34] <jepler> http://emergent.unpy.net/index.cgi-files/sandbox/i2g-emc2.1.png
[21:14:14] <alex_joni> jepler: have a screenshot of the russian translation?
[21:15:25] <jepler> alex_joni: http://emergent.unpy.net/index.cgi-files/sandbox/axis-ru.png
[21:15:51] <david__> Very nice, my EMC version juts throws an error :-)
[21:18:17] <alex_joni> jepler: you set your whole Ubuntu in russian?
[21:18:59] <jepler> alex_joni: that's the screenshot included with the translation
[21:19:03] <jepler> I didn't make it
[21:19:16] <alex_joni> heh.. ok
[21:20:02] <alex_joni> didn't know you can handle cyrilics
[21:20:28] <alex_joni> looks nice though
[21:25:02] <alex_joni> david__: something is wrong
[21:25:28] <david__> I'm trying to send you a file is it happening ?
[21:25:39] <alex_joni> no, not really
[21:25:46] <alex_joni> DCC SEND from david__ [0.0.0.199 port 0]:
[21:25:56] <alex_joni> that's not a valid IP and port address
[21:26:28] <alex_joni> david__: put it on www.imagebin.org
[21:31:15] <david__> Hi
[21:31:27] <david__> It's there as DN http://imagebin.org/7433
[21:35:02] <david__> I've put a second image, screenshot of my Basic program called DN-2
[21:37:42] <alex_joni> nice
[21:38:06] <alex_joni> http://imagebin.org/7434
[21:52:24] <anonimasu> nicem
[22:01:37] <david__> have to go now, bye
