[00:35:23] <Rabbitbunny> what was the name for the imaginary machine I can tell EMC i have?
[00:40:24] <skunkworks> sim axis?
[00:42:45] <Rabbitbunny> * Rabbitbunny looks that up
[00:53:00] <Rabbitbunny> while that does seem like a realistic name for it, those keywords don't seem to bring up anything.
[00:54:04] <Ziegler> Hey Rabbitbunny
[00:54:35] <Ziegler> Rabbitbunny: do you have emc already installed?
[00:55:34] <Ziegler> you run emc, and select sim from the list
[00:57:09] <Rabbitbunny> k
[00:57:37] <Rabbitbunny> oh, that list where i selected inches earlier
[00:58:03] <Ziegler> its an index screen... did you isntall it in ubuntu?
[00:58:12] <Rabbitbunny> no, BDI
[00:58:19] <Rabbitbunny> I got it using the sim ini
[00:58:27] <Ziegler> BDI ?!?!
[00:58:33] <Ziegler> what version are you using?
[00:58:49] <Rabbitbunny> brain dead install, it's like a ubuntu livecd, but with emc2 already in
[00:59:00] <Ziegler> I know what BDI is...
[00:59:21] <Ziegler> is it the new Ubuntu install, or is it the "from a few years ago" BDI install
[00:59:29] <Rabbitbunny> new
[00:59:33] <SWPadnos> there is no BDI based on Ubuntu
[00:59:43] <Rabbitbunny> emc2 2.1.6
[00:59:55] <dmess> do you have an install icon or NOT
[01:00:04] <dmess> old one
[01:00:23] <SWPadnos> 2.1.6 isn't the most up to date, but it's not all that old either
[01:00:34] <Ziegler> right... but its still the ubuntu isntall
[01:00:42] <dmess> no its a live Cd
[01:01:03] <SWPadnos> what are you people talking about?
[01:01:07] <Ziegler> ?!?!
[01:01:41] <dmess> axis-sim sould work
[01:01:49] <Ziegler> http://www.linuxcnc.org/content/view/2/4/lang,en/
[01:01:53] <Ziegler> that live cd
[01:01:55] <Ziegler> is ubuntu
[01:01:59] <Ziegler> a modified version of it
[01:02:14] <Rabbitbunny> ...i have that.
[01:02:34] <dmess> axis - sim should work
[01:02:52] <SWPadnos> sim/axis
[01:03:07] <dmess> as long as parts arent too big.. then you have to tweak..
[01:03:51] <Ziegler> did you say you got it working Rabbitbunny?
[01:03:55] <dmess> ive installed that cd .. works pretty well for me..
[01:04:06] <Rabbitbunny> yes, I got it loaded with the sim config.
[01:04:20] <Rabbitbunny> where's the 'go' button?
[01:04:21] <dmess> vapt and stuff workin
[01:04:47] <Rabbitbunny> i'm assuming there's more config left.
[01:05:13] <Ziegler> Rabbitbunny: hit f1 to take it out of estop
[01:05:19] <Ziegler> hit f2 to turn on the machine
[01:05:28] <Ziegler> then hit "r"
[01:05:44] <Rabbitbunny> oh wow.
[01:05:47] <dmess> hit the square beside the red x
[01:05:49] <Rabbitbunny> that's cool
[01:05:59] <dmess> then forward arrow
[01:06:23] <Ziegler> dmess: you are a few steps behind
[01:06:32] <dmess> sorry
[01:06:40] <dmess> icant type
[01:06:46] <Ziegler> no worries
[01:07:06] <dmess> and havent opened emc in weeks
[01:07:22] <dmess> playing with APT
[01:07:33] <Ziegler> Rabbitbunny: for sim mode there really isnt much more config to do... unless you want it to resemble your real machine
[01:08:00] <Rabbitbunny> well, that would be cool to resemble an imaginary machine that only exists in my head.
[01:08:09] <Rabbitbunny> how much config are we talking about?
[01:08:11] <dmess> dream on
[01:08:15] <Ziegler> LOL... Rabbitbunny I was there a year ago
[01:08:39] <Ziegler> not much Rabbitbunny but it is a bit of learning curve if you try to do it on your own...
[01:08:46] <Ziegler> *hint* come here for help
[01:08:47] <dmess> silly wabbit ehh
[01:08:58] <Rabbitbunny> yeah, default machine sounds cool.
[01:09:09] <Ziegler> you see my machines Rabbitbunny?
[01:09:10] <Rabbitbunny> gotta get the can crusher built, then I can build a cnc
[01:09:18] <Rabbitbunny> nope
[01:09:21] <dmess> mom had a bear in the tree in the front yard on the weekend
[01:09:36] <Ziegler> here is the one I built earlier this year: http://images.myonlinesite.com/cnc/
[01:09:50] <Ziegler> here is my mill: http://images.myonlinesite.com/cnc_mill/
[01:09:53] <dmess> just a litttle bear... 35 lbs..15-17 kg
[01:10:56] <dmess> mom got hunted... he was 2nd litter born in August... so the MNR kept him
[01:13:11] <dmess> bunny eats crushed cans??
[01:25:25] <Rabbitbunny> Ziegler: your machine is huge
[01:25:47] <Rabbitbunny> dmess: i'm making my first cnc from beens cans i've melted down and cast.
[01:25:56] <Rabbitbunny> beer cans*
[01:28:36] <Ziegler> which machine Rabbitbunny?
[01:37:33] <dmess> very cool.. reduce reuse recycle.... i like your stride bunnyWabbit
[01:39:11] <dmess> can crushers are easy... compressed air and a ram.....
[01:40:03] <dmess> a few switches and knobs... crushed cans
[01:40:42] <dmess> what do you have to melt them in???
[01:41:19] <dmess> takes many cans to make a LB a steel..
[01:53:04] <Rabbitbunny> it seems to take ~170 cans to make a pound of alum
[01:53:23] <Rabbitbunny> Ziegler: both the can crusher and the small pcb cnc are going to be cast
[01:53:32] <Ziegler> cool
[01:53:55] <Ziegler> my question was... which machine did you think was big
[01:54:09] <Rabbitbunny> the MDF one, you have others?
[01:55:12] <Ziegler> yes.. look at the other link I posted
[01:56:05] <Rabbitbunny> wow.
[01:57:00] <Ziegler> I have only had the mill a couple weeks now
[01:57:30] <Rabbitbunny> made anything cool?
[01:57:39] <Rabbitbunny> you name in faux weld?
[01:57:42] <Rabbitbunny> your*
[01:58:27] <Ziegler> hehe yeah a couple times
[01:58:59] <Ziegler> http://images.myonlinesite.com/cnc_mill/ball_cage/ball_cage.jpg
[01:59:38] <Rabbitbunny> wow.
[02:00:57] <Rabbitbunny> that's insane.
[02:02:15] <Ziegler> other than that... look around at the other directories
[02:02:20] <Ziegler> just playing around so far
[06:07:16] <toast> man
[06:07:19] <toast> this confrence
[06:07:21] <toast> is incredible

[06:07:40] <alex_joni> Just this once .. here's the log: http://www.linuxcnc.org/irc/irc.freenode.net:6667/emc/2007-10-16.txt
[06:49:27] <Rabbitbunny> So... the basic project flow is Brain -> AutoCAD -> G-SIMPLE -> EMC2 -> Mill ?
[08:08:58] <erdizz> hi alex_joni
[08:22:02] <alex_joni> how's it going?
[08:22:09] <alex_joni> any progress on the CNC software?
[08:22:14] <alex_joni> mync was it?
[08:32:03] <erdizz> alex_joni, I'd call it "steady slow progress". Granted the new gm2 Modula-2 compiler, I've decided to try to hack it into the kernel to give the old code a second breath. Having fun :) That's about it.
[08:48:19] <alex_joni> erdizz: coo
[08:49:03] <erdizz> alex_joni, apt-get moo
[09:21:22] <alex_joni> erdizz: :P

[10:28:44] <x3rox> Hello, can somebody tell me where I can get help with IPSec configuration? (I know that I am here totally OT.)
[10:31:48] <fenn> ##networking?
[10:32:33] <x3rox> Good Idea. Thank you.
[11:10:19] <Dallur> /tell x3rox you using openswan?
[11:10:27] <Dallur> bahh mistell

[13:15:57] <fenn> it printed a lot of debug stuff to the console
[13:28:49] <fenn> step-nc is really cool

[18:16:13] <cradek> someone got a good deal on those power feed units
[18:16:59] <SWPadnos> the cheap imports are in the $150-250 range, new
[18:17:31] <SWPadnos> and since those say "Asong" on them, I'm assuming they're cheap imports ;)

[18:34:32] <alex_joni> :-)
[19:24:35] <Paragon37> Jepler are you here?
[19:29:29] <Paragon37> I have been playing around with Quartus II and Pluto-Step.
[19:29:29] <Paragon37> I am new to field of Verilog / FPGA but have managed to compile the pluto-step firmware but a question regarding Quartus generates stepgen:s0 - s3 is this determined by the pin assignment?
[19:29:30] <Paragon37> For example if I only wish to generate code for stepgen:s0 - s2 do I need to delete pin assignment for step03 and dir03 or am I barking up the wrong tree?
[19:37:42] <jepler> Paragon37: in main.v, the instance "s3" is created by this line: stepgen #(W,F,T) s3(clk, stepcnt, pos3, vel3, dirtime, steptime, real_step[3], real_dir[3], tap);
[19:37:47] <jepler> you would remove that line to not have an "s3"
[19:39:26] <Paragon37> I see ... Thanks for that! It sure is strange language to get ones head around :-)
[19:41:20] <Paragon37> If I make changes to the pluto-step .comp do I need to recompile the whole emc2-trunk?
[19:42:33] <alex_joni> jepler: shouldn't that be stepgen #(W,T,F) ?
[19:43:55] <Paragon37> Alex_joni Jepler is correct I'm looking at it now.
[19:44:43] <Paragon37> How does one run the test_stepgen.v for debugging?
[19:45:33] <alex_joni> Paragon37: that was meant as a joke.. WTF is a nice name for variables :D
[19:45:54] <Paragon37> :-) lol ....
[19:56:43] <JymmmEMC> alex_joni: it be a good april's fool if you wrote it up in a whotepaper
[19:57:06] <alex_joni> whitepaper?
[19:57:28] <fenn> a whatpaper?
[19:58:05] <JymmmEMC> alex_joni: wtf pepper
[20:07:12] <SkinnyPuppy34> No a WTF Paper where all the news is WTF mate...
[20:07:40] <SkinnyPuppy34> Anywho .. I'm finally wiring the cabinet
[20:12:16] <SkinnyPuppy34> I'm using cat5 to run from the geckos step/dir/common to the breakout board. Cat5 is physically run away from power and motor lines. Is 12 or 18 inches of cat5 too long or is that ok?
[20:25:56] <anonimasu> SkinnyPuppy34: it's ok.
[20:26:08] <anonimasu> SkinnyPuppy34: though you might want shielded cabling
[20:26:19] <anonimasu> it might save you lots of work
[20:45:20] <SkinnyPuppy34> Hmm it's not shielded. Planned on using one of the four pairs for chassis ground. Or might it be better using all the stripe wires for ground and solids for signal?
[20:46:52] <skunkworks> what is the url for posting images?
[20:46:57] <jepler> some use imagebin.org
[20:49:52] <skunkworks> jepler: thanks
[22:00:03] <rob_melb> mornin in aust
[22:00:59] <rob_melb> can anyone help in a simple way to find which way to wire a 6 wire stepper to a controller
[22:01:41] <rob_melb> its easy with a multi to find the two sets of coils and the centre taps
[22:01:48] <JymmmEMC> rob_melb: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?StepMotorWireIdentification
[22:02:03] <rob_melb> thanx
[22:05:26] <rob_melb> this seems to be for much bigger steppers but still holds good I suspect
[22:11:05] <anonimasu> yes
[22:11:29] <fenn> it depends if your motor driver is unipolar or bipolar
[22:13:21] <Paragon37> Could someone please tell what command to add to print varible information to standard out from within an EMC module?
[22:20:37] <Paragon37> rtapi_print_msg () ?
[22:50:17] <rob_melb> fenn the diver board is a tiny usb job with 5 outputs
[22:54:56] <rob_melb> so it does use the centre taps of windings to get four pulses
[22:55:11] <rob_melb> as I have seen that on leds
[23:19:44] <skunkworks> usb?
[23:26:33] <rob_melb> hmmm that is 3 axis with five wire to clarify
[23:26:52] <rob_melb> I maust away
[23:32:54] <fenn> there isnt any usb hardware that is supported by emc
[23:33:02] <fenn> except for input devices
