[13:19:20] <Loetmichel_> mrsun: for ac some windings around the primary power live cable is the better way.
[13:19:41] <mrsun> Loetmichel_, was that i ment with the wire around the pin :P
[13:19:43] <Loetmichel_> Even isolated to the primary power
[13:19:57] <Loetmichel_> unlike your circuit ;-)
[13:20:01] <mrsun> that you just warp some cable around the live cable and get some induced voltage =)
[13:20:09] <mrsun> Loetmichel_, was an example circuit i found =)
[13:21:09] <Loetmichel_> 0.1 Ohm is a bit high, though
[13:22:16] <mrsun> as low as possible imo and then use an opamp to get the reading higher before adc =)
[13:22:20] <Loetmichel_> that would be around 1,6V for 16A and about 26Watts for the resistor. NOT a good idea if it cant cope with that ;-)
[13:23:34] <mrsun> http://circuits.linear.com/images/circuits/236_circuit_1.jpg thats more like it =)

[16:27:51] <TRW_Aguascalient> Hi every body, i have a basic question about servo motors
[16:29:20] <TRW_Aguascalient> were can i find information about the difference between torque/current and velocity/speed mode, which one is better for a CNC application
[16:29:45] <JT-Shop> mmmm, italian sausage
[16:30:06] <JT-Shop> most applications that I know of use velocity drives for CNC
[16:31:12] -!- sumpfralle [[email protected]] has joined #linuxcnc
[16:31:47] -!- vladimirek has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
[16:37:28] <pcw_home> My take on this is that LinuxCNC can close the velocity loop with a torque mode drive but this requires a faster servo thread than normal
[16:37:30] <pcw_home> that is, LinuxCNC can make a velocity mode drive out of a torque mode drive. LinuxCNC and most LinuxCNC supported hardware has good
[16:37:32] <pcw_home> velocity estimation so can do just about as well as tachometer feedback velocity mode drives with a torque mode drive. The advantage of a torque mode drive
[16:37:33] <pcw_home> is that you know the force being applied to the load. This can be valuable for spindles and cases where you may want to limit torque (say during homing)

[16:55:52] <TRW_Aguascalient> thanks for the info, i will start with torque mode and if things go wrong i will switch

[21:42:41] <Gromits> Anyone know offhand how to cause a message to appear in Axis (as various warnings do)? We have a custom M code and want to send a message to Axis rather than (in addition to, actually) std out.
[21:43:16] <cradek> you can do it with a gcode comment like this: (msg,This is the text)
[21:44:29] <Gromits> can we put that in the sh script for the M code?
[21:44:36] <cradek> no
[21:44:53] <cradek> for that perhaps check out the message hal component?
[21:45:06] <Gromits> ah, ok that is what we were looking for.
[21:45:10] <Gromits> thanks
[21:45:39] <skunkworks> Gromits: how is the journey?
[21:55:15] <andypugh> Gromits: Another way to print a message is from an M-code, have a look at http://www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/component/kunena/?func=view&catid=21&id=16859#16878 et. seq.
[21:56:33] <andypugh> Also suggestions for ways to have voice prompts (M-code, MP3 and command-line audio)
[21:57:15] <cradek> http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2012/01/25
[21:58:15] <cradek> oh I misunderstood :-)
[21:58:57] <andypugh> Talking cartoons, I had a real one of these today: http://www.xkcd.com/979/
[21:58:59] <cradek> hahahaha a png with the fixed message "Re-orientate [sic] part in vice [sic] !!"
[21:59:33] <cradek> I know it's a proof of concept, but still...!
[21:59:33] <andypugh> That's English.
[22:00:15] <cradek> it's the approach of displaying a png of text that makes it entertaining
[22:00:33] <andypugh> (Well, "Vice" is certainly correct for the poster, I am not sure about "orientate")
[22:00:40] <cradek> (msg,Text in whatever dialect you want here)
[22:00:53] <cradek> !!
[22:00:58] <andypugh> He wanted something visible across the room.
[22:01:42] <cradek> ok....
[22:02:01] <cradek> you still can't convince me it's not funny :-)
[22:02:35] <Gromits> Ok, the message component worked. Thanks! No need to display porn or female voices (yet :-)
[22:03:14] <Gromits> skunkworks: we have the machine working great....except the torch failed. I am taking it in tomorrow to be repaired :-(
[22:03:16] <cradek> I have always been able to notice when the machine has stopped and is waiting for me to do something, regardless of the size of text on the screen, but perhaps the situation is different in this case.
[22:03:22] <cradek> Gromits: yay!
[22:03:46] <andypugh> Well, am EPS would have been more efficient, and could be created on-on-the-fly...
[22:04:07] <cradek> or it could have two large flags and use semaphore
[22:04:53] <dvmirc> PNGs can be created on the fly as well :-)
[22:05:02] <andypugh> I wrote a Semaphore Tutor for the Psion Organiser. I used the Venus-de-Milo as the interlocutor.

[22:13:01] <Gromits> well it shouldn't be fully submerged but a small amount isn't a big deal
[22:13:20] <Gromits> I did actually raise the slats today so they are about .125 above the water
[22:13:43] <Gromits> There are torches made to cut fully submerged, the Powermax 45 isn't one of them...
[22:14:37] <Gromits> I am so bummed the torch is broken. I feel like a kid on Christmas with no batteries :-(
[22:15:21] <skunkworks> Gromits: what did you end up with for drive and stuff?
[22:16:15] <Gromits> Granite Devices VSD on X and Y1, Y2 and a Gecko 320X on Z
[22:17:00] <Gromits> We have a 10:1 gearbox on the X axis now and it runs beautifully. So we orderd two more gearboxes for the Y axis.
[22:17:20] <skunkworks> step/dir or ...?
[22:17:24] <Gromits> We have learned lots about servos and gearing
