[00:42:53] <JessicaRN> Hi folks. I'm looking for suggestions for a good freeware cad to gcode processor. a friend gave me his old fireball mill. I've already got a few choices for CAD apps including 123d, creo, sketchup, and a really old version of autocad. I also own Mach3 right now.
[00:43:20] <JessicaRN> my problem is just in creating complex gcode from the cad drawings
[00:43:47] <JessicaRN> any thoughts?
[00:44:34] <timholum> JessicaRN, Maybe look at replcatorG, It is for a makerbot, but I know it outputs in gcode
[00:44:59] <timholum> That might be the inverse of what you need thought, seeing it works by additive not subtracing matirial
[00:45:45] <sumpfralle> pycam could be a good choice
[00:49:30] <timholum> is there any special hardware required to make a cnc machine? is there a way to use gpio pins on board, or to use a arduino to control the stepper moters?
[00:50:43] <Jymmm> Yes, Yes, Yes.
[00:53:51] <timholum> Jymmm: any good tutorials you know of? I have a makerbot, so I can make any gears or anything I need, I would love to create a cnc machine for milling aluminum ext..

[01:31:56] <Connor> JessicaRN: Check out CamBam.
[01:34:34] <JessicaRN> ok, what can you tell me about it?
[01:46:41] <JessicaRN> ok, has anyone done any work with extruders? I'm toying with an idea of feeding very fine bell wire and then passing a high current through it once it touches the part being built. the current would melt a small drop of the bell wire to the part adding material at that point. any thoughts on this?
[01:49:07] <ReadError> not many 3d printer folks here i dont think
[01:49:55] <JessicaRN> hmmm, i guess not.
[01:50:07] <JessicaRN> is there a chan for that?
[01:50:34] <ReadError> reprap might have one
[01:50:35] <elmo40> I haven't seen one for printing. maybe reprap people?

[02:20:48] <lukepighetti> evening gents
[02:20:58] <r00t4rd3d> 3d printer people in #arduino
[02:21:15] lukepighetti is now known as taiden
[02:21:17] <r00t4rd3d> also #sparkfun
[02:21:29] <taiden> can someone give me a hand with something right quick?
[02:21:57] <r00t4rd3d> thats a pretty open questions
[02:21:59] <r00t4rd3d> -s
[02:22:16] <taiden> yeah it is, it could mean all kinds of things!
[02:22:26] <r00t4rd3d> is it sexual?
[02:22:34] <taiden> depends on your orientation
[02:22:53] <taiden> in this case though, it means that I just finally got my cnc router all wired up and hooked up to linuxcnc
[02:22:59] <taiden> the axis all test fine
[02:23:05] <tjb1> root
[02:23:07] <taiden> but when i load my settings into linuxcnc the emergeny stop is locked
[02:23:11] <tjb1> did you see romans limit switches?
[02:23:16] <r00t4rd3d> yeah thatnks
[02:23:20] <r00t4rd3d> thanks
[02:23:37] <taiden> is there some simple tid bit that i overlooked?
[02:23:42] <r00t4rd3d> taiden you cant unclick it?
[02:23:46] <taiden> nope
[02:23:56] <taiden> i've used the simulation before and it's totally unresponsive
[02:24:03] <taiden> and this is totally***
[02:24:14] <r00t4rd3d> your parallel settings, how did you obtain them?
[02:24:25] <taiden> i just used what was default
[02:24:29] <r00t4rd3d> lol
[02:24:31] <taiden> axis test worked perfectly fine
[02:24:53] <r00t4rd3d> well if the default settings has a estop and you dont....
[02:24:55] <taiden> i'm using a g540 so i just loaded the settings for that
[02:25:19] <r00t4rd3d> see if there is a estop in the para settings
[02:25:34] <r00t4rd3d> rerun stepconfig and open your existing config to check
[02:25:45] <r00t4rd3d> it will give you the option
[02:26:14] <ReadError> taiden,
[02:26:17] <ReadError> turn the charge pump off
[02:26:23] <taiden> alright i'll do that
[02:26:28] <taiden> sorry, it was already
[02:26:41] <ReadError> so the lights come on?
[02:26:46] <taiden> yep
[02:26:52] <taiden> the axis work in stepconf axis test
[02:27:02] <taiden> but when i get into linuxcnc 2.5 the estop button is locked
[02:27:28] <r00t4rd3d> i had limit switches set in my parallel settings but didnt have them hooked up, cause all kinds of problems
[02:27:41] <r00t4rd3d> kept searching for limits
[02:28:09] <taiden> alright
[02:28:14] <taiden> i have "estop in" on pin 15
[02:28:19] <taiden> i suppose i can just disable that for now?
[02:28:22] <r00t4rd3d> set to unused
[02:28:33] <taiden> soild we'll give this a shot
[02:28:36] <r00t4rd3d> then restart
[02:28:50] <r00t4rd3d> restart linuxcnc*
[02:28:58] <taiden> let's see what happens
[02:29:03] <taiden> magic
[02:29:12] <r00t4rd3d> and im a fucking newb
[02:29:21] <r00t4rd3d> cant even use linuxcnc myself :P
[02:29:31] <taiden> alright i'm going to see if i can crash all three axis simultaneously without my limit switches installed
[02:29:31] <r00t4rd3d> ReadError has to hold my hand
[02:29:39] <taiden> thanks a lot r00t4rd3d :)
[02:29:50] <Valen> you can disable homing you know that right ;->
[02:29:54] <r00t4rd3d> yeah
[02:30:05] <ReadError> oh
[02:30:17] <Valen> we still don't have limits, and ran for ages without home positions
[02:30:23] <r00t4rd3d> or just dont have limits/home set in your parallel settings
[02:30:33] <ReadError> im powering the 3rd from the last jack
[02:30:35] <r00t4rd3d> and it skips homing by itself
[02:30:38] <ReadError> it could be estop ?
[02:30:52] <ReadError> i have the 3rd from the last connected to the last
[02:31:51] <r00t4rd3d> im still waiting on my estop
[02:31:58] <r00t4rd3d> and box

[02:32:25] <taiden> stupid question
[02:32:30] <taiden> how the heck do I 'unhome" an axis
[02:32:42] <taiden> i homed x in the middle of travel and now it wont go beyond that
[02:33:08] <r00t4rd3d> use the -/+ buttons or arrow keys to move your axis
[02:33:16] <r00t4rd3d> then reclick home axis button
[02:33:17] <taiden> yeah it wont let me go past the homed location
[02:33:33] <r00t4rd3d> file , homing, unhome all axis or something
[02:33:50] <r00t4rd3d> im on windows right now so i have to guess :)
[02:34:27] <r00t4rd3d> top left, one of those menus has a homing sub menu
[02:36:37] <tjb1> Hey ReadError
[02:37:34] <r00t4rd3d> taiden, did your parallel settings have any pins set to limit/homing?
[02:37:39] <taiden> nope
[02:37:49] <r00t4rd3d> did you get it working?
[02:37:54] <r00t4rd3d> or unhome your axis
[02:39:17] <r00t4rd3d> did you leave your home location in X,Y,Z Settings to 0?
[02:42:26] <r00t4rd3d> well he must have got it working

And 'Don't/ Waste time / Messing around / In yellow tie.' And native English people used to misheard alot, too. But studying for an IELTS test for foreigners really makes you know English, and its listeting part is so hard for me...
[12:29:16] <mrsun> shouldnt foam grind quite well insted of using milling cutters?
[12:29:25] <mrsun> feels like the finnish should be alot better atleast =)
[12:29:45] <mazafaka> E.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-E6p43LP88

[12:30:54] -!- joe9 has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
[12:31:09] <jdhNC> but, if you have an issue with it, you might ask about that and see if anyone else knows.
[12:32:49] <mazafaka> mrsun: Today used pneumatic grinder to create blades for machine which crushes plastics. Planned to use plasma router and 2.5D milling machine, used plasma and grinder instead. Grinding wastes time, but works for hard materials., I think
[12:33:38] <mrsun> mazafaka, im talking about foam, that is the pink or blue one for insulation =)
[12:33:40] <mrsun> in cnc machines
[12:33:45] <mrsun> for example lost foam castings
[12:35:58] <mazafaka> I used cutting disk for metal on angle grinder to carefully cut thick pieces of wood. Some people on Internet who use dremel with self-made attachments can hurt themselfs in an obvious way, I wander about this all, how not to be careful whatever you do.
[12:37:34] -!- mk0 has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
[12:39:03] <mazafaka> Also, only little angle grinders (disk diameter about 125 mm) are safe, big angle grinders with diameter of 230 mm or 10 inches are machines of death, and outer surface of huge cutting disk on such big angle grinders is usually wasted, so you make it fine again using angle grinder against the concrete floor
[12:39:33] <Valen> depends on what you are doing
[12:40:29] <jdhNC> I have a 100mm angle grinder I use may be once every other year
[12:40:30] <Valen> for some things a 10" grinder is the way to go
[12:40:59] <jdhNC> and a 200mm one I used once (with a buffing pad on my boat) that I will never use again.
[12:41:24] <jdhNC> it sucked bad enough with the buffing pad that I never want to see what a grinding wheel would do with it.
[12:41:56] -!- mk0 [[email protected]] has joined #linuxcnc
[12:42:24] <mazafaka> yeah, but we could hurt ourselfs on a regular dismantling of equipment or pipes or sewage system. but when you need to get through thin layer of material, have to use big angle grinder
[12:45:21] <mazafaka> especially when they change the knobs and you do not pull the grinder but rather keep it far while it tries to move to your side. "I am not like the ones who like the sparks flying onto them," they say. Hah, people who never really worked hard ever...
[12:46:44] <mazafaka> I have 125 mm Makita, about 10000 RPM and use it alot with the mask and wire brush, cutting disks for cleaning of MIG welding traces on thick steel
[12:47:36] <mazafaka> E.g. it's easy to carefully clean gas tank surface from welding with small cutting disk, than with the use of grinding wheel

[15:10:12] <Gromits> Taking just one of the buttons: in .ini I have three MDI commands configured. I have MDI_COMMAND = G91, MDI_COMMAND = G0 X-3.5 Y0.3, MDI_COMMAND = G90

[15:14:10] <Gromits> What am I missing?
[15:15:40] <JT-Shop> you will want to do that in a subroutine Gromits
[15:15:58] <JT-Shop> you can only run one mdi command at a time iirc
[15:16:03] <Gromits> ah
[15:16:25] <Gromits> so can I define a subroutine in an MDI_COMMAND line in the .ini?
[15:17:59] <JT-Shop> yep, make a named file with your sub in it like the manual says and use o<myname> call in the MDI
[15:18:26] <JT-Shop> if you don't have a file loaded the MDI command will fail
[15:18:39] <JT-Shop> can be a file with one line M2
[15:19:16] <JT-Shop> wanna know how many days it took me to find that out?
[15:19:28] <jdhNC> the sub could also reset g90 at the end
[15:20:03] <Gromits> do you happen to have a pointer to the manual on this?
[15:20:18] <Gromits> I don't really want to have the requirement to load a file.
[15:20:28] <Gromits> Can the button load a file?
[15:20:54] <Gromits> But I don't want that, because the user MIGHT have their own file loaded, or might not;;; :-(
[15:21:43] <jdhNC> there is a gladevcp example that has a button that runs a sub
[15:22:19] <Gromits> I thought about using Glade, but this install already has a pyvcp panel...
[15:22:40] <JT-Shop> to fix that undocumented feature you will have to change the code for Axis I think
[15:23:02] <JT-Shop> Gromits: which documentation are you seeking?
[15:23:34] <Gromits> in reference to your comment above: "...sub in it like the manual says and use o<myname>..."
[15:23:45] <JT-Shop> ri

[15:24:06] <Gromits> thanks!
[15:24:09] <JT-Shop> np
[15:24:55] <Gromits> so that has to be called from within an ngc file, or are you just saying there is a "feature" that requires a ngc file to be loaded
[15:24:57] <Gromits> ?
[15:25:23] <JT-Shop> I was rather hoping to spark someones interest in removing that undocumentet feature...
[15:25:35] <Gromits> :-)
[15:25:43] <JT-Shop> no, you can not execute a MDI command without some file loaded
[15:25:49] <JT-Shop> try it and you will see
[15:26:02] <Gromits> I'll take your word for it.
[15:26:33] <JT-Shop> put OPEN_FILE = "" in the [DISPLAY] section then try and run a MDI command
[15:26:50] <Gromits> I may try to convert the panel to glade and try it that way.., perhaps that same "feature" is not there...
[15:27:11] <JT-Shop> it's an Axis "feature"
[15:27:29] <Gromits> hmm, so it may still be there if I use glade... :-(
[15:27:29] <JT-Shop> has nothing to do with pyvcp or glade
[15:28:15] <jdhNC> so the work around is trivial and almost nobody would trigger the problem anyway?
[15:28:43] <Gromits> work around being to load a file?
[15:29:14] -!- mk0 has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

[15:35:08] <JT-Shop> jdhNC: well anyone that does not want a splash file loaded will have a huge chance at finding it
[15:35:34] <jdhNC> right. I don't want a splash file, but not bad enough to find the line in the INI and change it (yet)
[15:35:48] <JT-Shop> be better if that feature was not there as it serves no use
[15:36:17] <JT-Shop> I assume it is left over from before EMC had subroutines
[15:36:27] <jdhNC> looks like a buglet that hasn't annoyed anyone enough to fix.
[15:36:41] <JT-Shop> or left over from before you could run named subs
[15:37:14] <JT-Shop> yea, it cost me 3 days of lost work trying to figure it out...
[15:37:48] <JT-Shop> it annoyed me enough, just a bit short on the skills to fix it or even find it

[19:18:29] <jdhNC> Gromits: you want axis to reload a file after you do something in pyvcp/gladevcp?
[19:18:48] <Gromits> Yes. Touch off, specifically.
[19:19:25] <jdhNC> reloading after touch-off shouldn't do anything
[19:20:21] <Gromits> If you select Touch Off button that is already in Axis, after it touches off it automagically reloads the file.
[19:20:41] <Gromits> We have a touch off button in our panel and when we touch off we want to do the same
[19:21:14] <Gromits> The reason is that the new coordinates are somewhere else and if you don't reload the display is showing something that is not where you really are.

[20:20:51] -!- vladimirek has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[20:21:14] <andypugh> I would have thought so.
[20:21:26] <andypugh> The datasheet probably specifies
[20:21:26] <Jymmm> thats an thin guage alarm control panel, you dont want that
[20:21:29] <tjb1> Well thats on the ends where the wires get hooked up
[20:21:56] <tjb1> :(
[20:22:02] <tjb1> where do you see wall thickness
[20:22:17] <Jymmm> I dont
[20:23:11] <Jymmm> I see the knockout on the left, the cheap hinges, and the hole for a cam lock.
[20:23:59] * roycroft just ordered a rack enclosure for his cnc controller computer
[20:24:57] <andypugh> Is there any way to block ebay searches from showing stuff from PLCCenter?
[20:24:57] <tjb1> How much
[20:25:09] <tjb1> try -plccenter
[20:25:19] <roycroft> $59, if you're asking about the enclosure i ordered
[20:25:27] <tjb1> share where you bought it
[20:25:27] <roycroft> 4u, shallow depth
[20:25:31] <roycroft> amazon.com
[20:25:32] <JT-Shop> andypugh: go to advanced search
[20:25:43] <Jymmm> roycroft: 4U ?! wth
[20:26:15] <Jymmm> roycroft: you said RACK, did you mean enclosure?
[20:26:24] <roycroft> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001H968NQ/
[20:26:30] <roycroft> i said "rack enclosure"
[20:26:42] <roycroft> perhaps i should have clarified and said "rack mount enclosure"
[20:27:10] * roycroft offers his apologies for any miscommunication
[20:27:10] <Jymmm> roycroft: I dont think you'll be happy with that for CNC controller
[20:27:15] <roycroft> why not?
[20:27:27] <Jymmm> roycroft: The back panel isn't setup for connectors
[20:27:40] <Jymmm> roycroft: the front panel is for drives
[20:27:40] <roycroft> i'm not going to mount the other components inside that box
[20:27:43] <roycroft> it's just for the computer
[20:27:46] <Jymmm> ah
[20:28:01] <roycroft> i bought a cart the other day for mounting all the gear
[20:28:07] <Jymmm> k
[20:28:21] <roycroft> it's a nice cart, on big wheels, and room for about 20u or more of components
[20:28:24] <roycroft> 1.2m high
[20:28:29] <roycroft> but it's fairly shallow
[20:28:32] <Jymmm> roycroft: The only thing the 4u will really give you is full height PC PS
[20:28:35] <roycroft> so i needed the ultra-short rack enclosure
[20:28:48] <roycroft> the 4u cost less than the otherwise equivalent 2u
[20:28:56] <Jymmm> heh, figures
[20:28:58] <roycroft> and it also offers more room inside for air circulation
[20:29:04] <Jymmm> nobody wants them anymore
[20:29:05] <roycroft> i have plenty of rack space to spare
[20:29:12] <roycroft> so i don't mind getting the big clunker
[20:29:31] <roycroft> i'm thinking of getting a 2u enclosure for power supplies
[20:29:44] <roycroft> and perhaps a 1u enclosure if i'm going to use a gecko driver or something
[20:29:55] <Jymmm> no 1u
[20:29:58] <roycroft> i'll likely fab those components myself
[20:30:09] <Jymmm> you need the air, and 1u fans are EXTREMELY LOUD
[20:30:24] <Jymmm> 150000 RPM x4
[20:30:30] <roycroft> as loud as a spindle running at 20k rpm? :)
[20:30:38] <ReadError> roycroft: what driver ?
[20:30:38] <Jymmm> louder
[20:30:40] <roycroft> 150krpm?
[20:30:40] <ReadError> the g540 ?
[20:30:45] <roycroft> that's a pretty fast fan!
[20:30:54] <roycroft> that's what i'm considering, readerror
[20:30:58] <ReadError> thats what i got
[20:30:59] <Jymmm> roycroft: about 125dB each fan
[20:31:04] <ReadError> nice piece of hardware ;)
[20:31:10] <roycroft> 125dB is pretty loud
[20:31:30] <Jymmm> roycroft: hostname: banchee =)
[20:31:35] <roycroft> they're reasonably priced, get good reviews, and are common enough that if something happened i would not have to worry about sourcing a replacement quickly
[20:32:06] <Jymmm> roycroft: I could walk nto the datacenter near my rack blindfolded and tell you which cabinet was my box in =)
[20:32:28] <tjb1> i hate ebay
[20:33:15] <roycroft> i don't have a problem with ebay
[20:33:41] <tjb1> I hate wading through pages of the same thing
[20:33:51] <tjb1> And I cant get rid of it because then it will get rid of what I am looking for
[20:33:55] <roycroft> it's like anything else - as long as one knows how it works and one's expectations are reasonable it generally works as one expects
[20:34:47] <tjb1> Broken english is my problem
[20:34:53] <andypugh> tjb1: It's all in the search terms

[20:40:08] <atom1> JT-Shop, what was that acad lookalike cad package for linux? do you recall?
[20:40:25] <tjb1> Not for $140 roycroft
[20:40:46] <atom1> or maybe it was some other cad-alike program...
[20:41:08] <roycroft> it's a decent value at that price
[20:41:12] <roycroft> it may not be what you want to spend
[20:41:22] <roycroft> but it's nib, and a very nice enclosure
[20:43:42] <tjb1> Its very nice
[20:43:46] <tjb1> and an awesome size
[20:43:53] <tjb1> but I dont know if I want to pay that

[20:49:46] <Tom_itx> i probably won't worry about the hole, i may use it and make it bigger for a fan mount

[22:16:55] <andypugh> AC1 means inductinve, AC3 means starting motors and stopping them from full speed. AC means you can stop from part speed..
[22:16:56] <PCW> DC inductive loads make a nice arc welder so you need special DC contactors
[22:17:06] <andypugh> Sorry, AC1 means _non_inductive

[22:21:31] <andypugh> I am thinking about moving the control into software..
[22:21:58] <andypugh> But at the moment it opens if there is power to the supply, and closes when the power goes away

[22:28:56] <tjb1> Any thoughts on that one
[22:31:30] <PCW> If you wanted to get fancy, dump relay opening could also be qualified by DC below 30V or so
[22:34:02] <andypugh> I was hoping to avoid all fanciness.
[22:34:26] <andypugh> A prefer the very simple "power is off, dump relay closes"
[22:35:22] <andypugh> The simplest approach might be an inhibit timer in HAL.
[22:35:42] <PCW> Yeah a timer so you have a minimum off time
[22:36:18] <andypugh> That might also mean I can just replace the relay like-for-like
[22:36:45] <andypugh> As it should then only make with voltage applied.
[22:37:39] <andypugh> I will try that and see how it works out.
[22:37:51] <PCW> or sense the DC voltage (this does the same as the timer)
[22:39:13] <PCW> but a timer is simple and doesn't add new wires connected to nasty voltages

[22:44:04] <andypugh> Yes, that last bit was what I was nervous about.
[22:44:47] <andypugh> By the way, do any of my parameter-discovery cards have downloadable firmware?
[22:45:09] <PCW> all do
[22:45:20] <andypugh> OK.
[22:45:41] <PCW> only remote card without downloadable firmware is 7I64
[22:46:10] <JT-Shop> rewiring the phase converter went well... nothing exploded when I ran it
[22:46:26] <PCW> thats always good
[22:46:36] <andypugh> JT-Shop: I thought that was redundant now?
[22:47:46] <JT-Shop> it's still the preferred way to run the lathes
[22:48:18] <JT-Shop> I'm replacing the electrical cabinet on the generator now that the frame modifications are done
[22:49:11] <JT-Shop> for shit's and grins I replaced the tiny so cord from the 50a breaker with some 6-4 SO cord just to be sure voltage drop was not the issue
[22:49:51] <JT-Shop> 8 awg would have been better but I didn't have any laying about

[23:06:44] <andypugh> I wonder what firmware is on this 6i25? It appears to have 12 encoders.
[23:13:42] <micges> 7i77x2
[23:14:59] <andypugh> Possibly, though I would expect PWM too.
[23:15:09] <andypugh> I have no field power though.
[23:18:42] <andypugh> Time to hack an SATA Power connector to leach power from the motherboard :-)
[23:19:16] <PCW> 7I77 has no PWM
[23:19:34] <PCW> or rather the 7i77x2 config has no PWM
[23:20:01] <Jymmm> 8ga, jumper cables/ welding cbales
[23:20:37] <andypugh> PCW: Ah, it's analogout isn't it?
[23:20:47] <andypugh> They need field power to show up?
[23:21:00] <PCW> not the analog out
[23:22:04] <PCW> just the isolated digital I/O

[23:22:11] <Tom_itx> ok i got 3 separate transformer secondaries connected with .002v across their open wires. i think they are closely enough matched to connect them as one secondary. any thoughts?

[23:23:11] <PCW> since thats got to be less than the volts per turn I'd say go ahead
[23:23:24] <Tom_itx> it would save me 2 diode packs that way
[23:23:48] <Tom_itx> i had them combined after the bridge rectifiers originally
[23:24:40] <PCW> more load per bridge now...
[23:24:49] <Tom_itx> it's a 25A bridge
[23:25:07] <Tom_itx> the stepper drivers are only 7A x 3
[23:25:08] <roycroft> wow
[23:25:19] <roycroft> so the enclosure i ordered was supposed to ship in 3-5 days
[23:25:21] <Tom_itx> and i have them throttled back to 3.5 A
[23:25:29] <roycroft> and i just got a shipping notice and tracking number

[23:25:44] * roycroft wonders how much fun it's going to be to paint that thing
[23:25:58] <PCW> and they will only draw 3.5A when running at a fair clip
[23:26:32] <Tom_itx> what are the odds of one transformer shorting, taking the other 2 with it?
[23:26:39] <andypugh> W2 UP: Bingo!
[23:26:43] <Tom_itx> i can still wire it after the bridges...
[23:26:48] <Tom_itx> i'd just rather not
[23:27:25] <PCW> transformer failures are pretty rare unless overheated or wet
[23:28:10] <PCW> also a primary fuse /circuit breaker should catch this
[23:28:35] <roycroft> transformers also fail when they get hit by lightning
[23:28:37] <Tom_itx> any opinion whether to join them at the AC or after the bridges?
[23:28:44] <roycroft> and that's fairly common for power utility transformers
[23:28:47] <Tom_itx> i have enough bridges to go either way
[23:28:58] <roycroft> it hopefully doesn't apply in this situation, however
[23:29:23] <Jymmm> Tom_itx: id do it bfore
[23:29:30] <Tom_itx> reason?
[23:29:36] <PCW> lightning is pretty rare here
[23:29:43] <Jymmm> Tom_itx: filtering
[23:30:06] <roycroft> it's rare around here, too
[23:30:15] <Tom_itx> Jymmm, originally i had them wired after the bridges but i'm rewiring it now to stick in the control box
[23:30:17] <roycroft> well, it's common in the mountains
[23:30:21] <roycroft> but not in the valley
[23:30:30] <Tom_itx> and i decided to check the voltage differential while i was doing it
[23:30:37] <Tom_itx> .002 v isn't very much

[23:36:27] <roycroft> how quaint
[23:37:09] <roycroft> in my shop, though, "manual lathe" is redundant
[23:38:33] <JT-Shop> ain't nothing quaint about the Samson lathe
[23:40:29] <andypugh> PCW: Are the sserial ports on the same pins in the 7i77 software as the 7i76?
[23:41:04] <andypugh> If not, that would explain why I am not seeing much action from my 7i76 :-)
[23:42:39] <PCW> Different pinout so you can interchange (but the firmware tool works)
[23:42:48] <PCW> cant interchange
[23:42:57] <andypugh> Right. It works. :-)
[23:43:44] <PCW> dont write any 6I25 firmware or you cant get back...
[23:44:03] <andypugh> Can you elaborate?
[23:44:10] <andypugh> You mean 5i25 is OK?
[23:44:24] <andypugh> The card is currently claiming to be a 5i25 anyway
[23:44:27] <PCW> the firmware tool only knows 5I25s now

[23:51:17] <djdelorie> what if you're making a CNC steam engine?
[23:51:37] <Tom_itx> tjb1, no luck.. just persistence
[23:52:07] <tjb1> Or making a steam engine to power a generator to run your manual machines to make your hobby steam engine
[23:55:09] <andypugh> A steam-powered generator to run the VMC would be marvellously anachronistic.
[23:56:39] <JT-Shop> well that is a different story djdelorie
[23:56:58] <djdelorie> nothing wrong with robots building more robots, even if steam powered :-)
[23:57:11] <PCW> "Calling it a 5i25e might have been simpler?"
[23:57:13] <PCW> Yeah except all PCI cards are 5xxx and PCIE are 6XXX
[23:58:22] <PCW> 6I25 firmware also expects a 66MHz PCI bus
[23:59:12] <PCW> (so needs different jumper settings)
