[01:10:17] <jdh> all of our machines at work have to be painted some specific sherwin williams shade of blue. Nice to see something non-blue.
[01:11:48] <tjb1> Yeah
[01:12:03] <tjb1> It was rustoleum flourescent green but that was too expensive, 4 cans barely dented it
[01:12:15] <tjb1> now its some weird outdoor paint mixed at lowes
[01:12:28] <jdh> where do you get the steel?
[01:12:43] <tjb1> local

[01:24:07] <jdh> yep
[01:24:11] <tjb1> hmm
[01:24:18] <tjb1> still lacking inputs for the other stuff
[01:24:25] <tjb1> I need another parallel port but I dont know what will work
[01:24:29] <Connor> jdh: You like he ShuttleXpress ?
[01:24:43] <jdh> Connor: it's good for moving the mill around.
[01:24:55] <Connor> Yea, I was looking to get one at some point.
[01:25:10] <jdh> one of the buttons jumps between jog distance but there is no feedback as to which one is selected.
[01:25:16] <Connor> I think Tormach has one they've gotten silked screened for their mills.
[01:25:30] <jdh> guess a pyvcp or something display could show it.
[01:26:04] <jdh> there is a wiki entry for some pci p-port cards that work well. I'd just get a mesa
[01:27:56] <tjb1> mesa what?
[01:28:26] <jdh> 5i25 + 7i76?
[01:28:49] <Connor> Anyone recommend some good Coolant ? I'm thinking of trying this.. http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=4119&category=
[01:29:07] <Connor> Looks like you mix it with something.. Water ??
[01:29:21] <tjb1> $210 no thanks :)
[01:29:53] -!- skorket has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[01:30:04] <jdh> $199 for the combo with cable
[01:30:19] <jdh> buy 5 and it's only $159 :)
[01:31:30] <tjb1> I have the g540
[01:31:36] <tjb1> I dont need a step/dir setup :)
[01:31:44] <tjb1> I just need more I/O
[01:32:03] <jdh> you don't have to use it for step/dir
[01:32:16] <jdh> but, yeah, pricey for just additional IO
[01:32:28] <tjb1> I just need a damn parallel card that works
[01:32:35] <tjb1> got one off fleabay…doesnt work
[01:32:48] <tjb1> not that I am surprised
[01:33:03] <jdh> not at all, or not with lcnc?
[01:33:15] <tjb1> I was trying on windows
[01:33:40] <tjb1> On another computer that didnt have a parallel, it was coming up as c800 and I couldnt get it recognized in anything
[01:35:17] Tom_L is now known as Tom_itx
[01:35:58] <jdh> I got a cheap netmos pci card in my router PC
[01:37:11] <jdh> works for IO, won't work with my mesa 7i43 though
[01:37:33] <tjb1> I found a nice BOB on ebay…almost bought it once
[01:37:43] <tjb1> I actually lost the auction by $.25
[01:39:01] <ReadError> whats the purposes of these mesa cards?
[01:39:06] <ReadError> seems like a royal PITA
[01:39:12] <ReadError> from the talk ive seen about them
[01:39:27] <tjb1> To say you have a Mesa :P
[01:39:30] <jdh> lots of IO, does the stepgen in HW so most PC latency issues aren't a problem.
[01:41:09] <tjb1> Does it give you more IO than just the parallel port?
[01:41:32] <jdh> my 7i43 has 48
[01:41:53] <Tom_itx> that's what i have on my mill
[01:42:21] <Tom_itx> ReadError they offload alot of the work
[01:42:34] <Tom_itx> make life alot easier
[01:42:37] <ReadError> ya but everyone is always like oh i have a problem with my mesa
[01:42:45] <Tom_itx> not really
[01:42:51] <Tom_itx> just noob stuff afik
[01:43:06] <Tom_itx> the 5i25 is a fairly new card
[01:43:23] <Tom_itx> so not alot of users using it yet
[01:43:26] <tjb1> I was just gonna grab this - http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=45
[01:43:37] <jdh> I'd trade my 7i43 for a 5i25.
[01:43:43] <Tom_itx> :)
[01:43:44] <Tom_itx> me too
[01:44:01] <Tom_itx> jdh what daughter card do you have on it?
[01:44:03] <jdh> Connor: you have a c10?
[01:44:26] <jdh> Tom: 7i47 and 7i37TA
[01:44:42] <Tom_itx> i wish i had the 7i37
[01:44:51] <Tom_itx> it's just a breakout isn't it?
[01:45:01] <Tom_itx> i just tapped into the header on mine
[01:45:25] <jdh> 7i42 is plain brakeout. This one is isolated 8out/16in
[01:47:30] <jdh> the opto inputs work with 5-24. works with AC also, but never seen a use for that.
[01:50:15] <tjb1> Tom_itx: Can you recommend a cheap parallel port that works with linuxcnc
[01:50:45] <Tom_itx> not off hand
[01:50:59] <Tom_itx> i use the 7i43 on my onboard parport
[01:51:00] <jdh> netmos 9845, 9865

[13:43:59] <JT-Shop> Jymmm: ?

[13:44:24] <ScribbleJ> Would I run 100% pg/antifreeze in or use a mix with water?
[13:44:29] <Valen> I'd run some kind of antifreze
[13:44:31] <JT-Shop> a scan is read inputs, solve logic, update outputs
[13:44:37] <Valen> if its compatible with your stuff
[13:44:45] <Jymmm> ScribbleJ: antifreeze is a poison to animals/kids, Food Grade isn't.
[13:44:49] <jdh> so the rung above it would never see the output turn on.
[13:44:56] <ScribbleJ> Good point, Jymmm
[13:44:57] -!- theorbtwo has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[13:45:03] <Valen> we run antifreze in our spindle, mainly because dissimilar metals are an issue

[13:45:53] <JT-Shop> it's not done one line at a time

[13:50:28] <ScribbleJ> I don't believe I am. But it sounds like something I could find at a hardware store.
[13:50:31] <Valen> you want to have a corrosion inhibitor as well or disimilar metal corrosion will eat stuff really fast
[13:50:34] <JT-Shop> or go to wally world and get it by the camper supplies near automotive
[13:50:46] <ScribbleJ> Corrosion inhibitor?
[13:50:55] <Valen> do you often have children trying to drink from your laser?
[13:51:08] <Valen> there is a reason you don't fill your car engine with tap water
[13:51:10] <JT-Shop> glycol = holding tank antifreeze

[13:56:46] <Jymmm> Valen: It's for his LASER, not car.
[13:56:47] <ScribbleJ> The laser is probably safe though, it seems to be all glass.
[13:56:55] <ScribbleJ> Jymmm, laser and mill spindle.
[13:57:07] <Valen> Jymmm: does that stop corrosion?
[13:57:27] <Valen> lasers make all the attached hardware immune
[13:57:31] <ScribbleJ> Valen, I'm not sure there's anything in the laser to corrode really - the water path appears to be all glass.
[13:57:38] <Jymmm> Valen: If he uses distilled water, then yes.
[13:58:02] <Valen> he needs deionised not distilled
[13:58:08] <Jymmm> Why?
[13:58:30] -!- theorbtwo has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[13:58:31] <ScribbleJ> Because it's the neg/pos ions (salts) in the water that cause corrosion?

[13:58:58] <ScribbleJ> That's what I'd guess. I know nothing.

[13:59:43] <Jymmm> Valen: with interaction with metal; but if there is no metal in his laser...
[13:59:43] <Valen> deionised water has that largley removed, distilled is more concerned with other crap

[15:07:40] <FinboySlick> I'd guess Mach is a bit less flexible in terms of setup too. It's tailored to a few specific types of machines. I doubt it could run a hexapod but I could be wrong.
[15:08:08] <jdh> does anyone use a hexapod for anything?
[15:08:29] <micges> heh for testing kinematics maybe :)

[15:48:36] <awallin> are these servo-machines? with +/-10V analog control? you will need some hardware in the pc
[15:48:47] <awallin> and you need to start with a pc that has decent real-time performance
[15:49:40] <awallin> you can probably boot from the live-cd and run latency-test, without installing anything. I think..

[21:54:29] <KimK> Any updated recommendations on what's the best mini-CPU (ITX?) to get (for building in)? I might want a case and power supply for tabletop development use too, any suggestions there? Is the Intel D525 still the hot item? How about the Gigabyte D525? Other D525s? Any and all suggestions appreciated.
